Musicians Jordin Sparks and Jason Derule sat down for their first exclusive interview as a couple on Wednesday on ‘The Wendy Williams Show.’ The two singers told the talk show host how they met and began dating. They also played “How You Loving’?,” during which they both agreed Sparks’ ideal date is a candlelit dinner. Sparks also reminisced about working with the late Whitney Houston on this summer’s musical drama remake ‘Sparkle.’
Sparks and Derulo told Williams that it wasn’t love at first sight for them. They didn’t become attracted to each other until they performed at a show together last year in the Bahamas, and the ‘In My Head’ singer invited the actress to the after show party. The following day, Sparks went to Derulo’s dance rehearsal, and stayed the entire day.
The two live far from each other, however, as Sparks just bought her first home in Phoenix, where she lives with her dogs. Derulo also just bought his 2.5-acre dream house in Miami, which features nine bedrooms and a basketball court. Sparks will have her own closest in the house, however.
Sparks also told Williams that she’s proud of her weight loss. Since her last appearance on ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ in 2010, she has lost 50 pounds, and now feels comfortable wearing bikinis. She added that she cried when she saw her image on the cover of the August issue of Shape magazine.
Williams also told Sparks that she loved the ‘Sparkle’ remake. The actress said one of the most memorable scenes in the film was the finale, when she was wearing the red dress. She said Houston went to the filming to support her castmates, even though she wasn’t shooting her scenes that day. At the end of shooting, Houston called Sparks down to the bottom of the stage, and was crying and hugging her, saying she was perfect for ‘Sparkle.’
Sparks and Derulo also discussed their relationship during ‘How You Loving’?’ The two agreed that Derulo’s favorite body part of Sparks is her hip bone. They also agreed that her favorite date is a candlelit dinner.
However, the two disagreed over some things, including their best date. Sparks said her favorite date was when they went horseback riding in Los Angeles, while Derulo said their time together in the Bahamas was their best date. They also disagreed over when they had their first kiss. Sparks said it was while they were having dinner at Katana in West Hollywood, while Derulo said it was in Phoenix.
