‘Life Is But a Dream,’ the intimate, feature-length HBO documentary that focuses on Grammy-winning singer Beyonce, is set to debut on Saturday at 9pm. Co-directed and produced by the actress herself, the film includes videos that provides unprecedented access to the private entertainment icon and high-voltage performances.

“HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity,” Beyonce said of working with the premium cable network. “Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home.”

‘Life Is But a Dream’ shows off the businesswoman and songwriter’s gifts that have made her a global phenomenon. The documentary includes extensive first-person footage, some of it shot by Beyonce on her laptop, in which she discusses the realities of being a celebrity, the refuge she finds onstage and the joy of becoming a mother last year.

The film also shows Beyonce’s childhood in Houston, including home videos that reveal the close bond she built with her family. It also shows the challenges the singer faced when she decided to manage her career and build her own company, Parkwood Entertainment. ‘Life Is But a Dream’ also chronicles the physical and emotional demands she goes through in the studio and when she prepares for live performances.
