Want to get the red leather motorcycle jacket worn by Ryan Gosling in “The Place Beyond the Pines” (pictured below) and give back to charity at the same time? Well your opportunity has come!

Profiles in History is auctioning the jacket in order to raise funds for Variety – The Children’s Charity of Southern California. Founded in 1941, Variety – The Children’s Charity of Southern California is a 501(c)3 organization comprised of people in the entertainment industry who raise funds to provide support for disabled, physically-challenged, abused and underprivileged children in Southern California. The chapter is part of a larger, worldwide network, Variety International, founded in 1928.

The charity added their “Variety’s Kids” Auction Program in November 2005 and has raised over $1 million through auctioning cool Hollywood items like signed movie memorabilia and costumes such as the shirts worn by the stars of Focus Features’ “Brokeback Mountain,” the green dress worn by Keira Knightley in Focus’ “Atonement,” the suit worn by Shawn Penn in Focus’ “Milk,” the 1966 Dodge Coronet used in Focus’ A Serious Man and two props used in the animated feature ParaNorman. All proceeds from the auctions go directly to children in need.

Elizabeth O’Neil, Executive Director of Variety – The Children’s Charity of Southern California, is very happy about the auction. “Our charity is proud to continue its longstanding association with Focus Features, which has allowed movie fans to own pieces of cinema history from so many fine films while contributing greatly appreciated extra funds to children in need,” she said.

Gosling’s jacket will be auctioned during an event held by Profiles in History starting March 29 and ending April 8. March 29 is also the day Focus releases “The Place Beyond the Pines” in exclusive engagements in NYC at Landmark Theatres’ Sunshine Cinema and AMC Theatres’ Lincoln Square, and Los Angeles, at Landmark Theatres’ The Landmark and the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood. The jacket is currently on display at ArcLight Cinemas until Friday, April 5. After the initial limited release, the film will be in theaters nationwide April 12.

Here’s more information on the jacket:

“The jacket…is a Firstgear red leather motorcycle jacket with snap pockets at the front, black corduroy at the collar, zipper vents at both front and back with black leather in the vent, elastic at both cuffs and bottom, and zips to close. The lining from the auction item has been removed because of wear from extensive location filming of sequences in which Luke rides on his motorcycle.”

The Place Beyond the Pines is directed by Derek Cianfrance and stars Academy Award nominees Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, and Eva Mendes. In the film, Gosling plays a high-wire motorcycle stunt performer named Luke:

“‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ is the daring new movie from the director of ‘Blue Valentine,’ a sweeping emotional drama powerfully exploring the unbreakable bond between fathers and sons. Also starring Rose Byrne, Mahershala Ali, Dane DeHaan, Emory Cohen, Ben Mendelsohn, and Ray Liotta, the Focus Features and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment presentation of an Electric City Entertainment production in association with Verisimilitude is scripted by Cianfrance, Ben Coccio, and Darius Marder, from a story by Cianfrance and Coccio.”
