Lately, indie rock has been imploding the pages of Shockya. I don’t know about you readers, but I am growing tired of hearing about the latest button down, suspender and bow tie wearing bands. So, why not spice up the content a bit with some hard rock music from the two-Grammy nominated band, Skillet. The outfit will be releasing their new album, “Rise”, on June 25th via Atlantic/Word. The album’s lead single, “Sick of It”, will be available on iTunes on April 9th.

Consisting of John Cooper (lead vocalist/bassist), Korey Cooper (guitarist/keyboardist), Jen Ledger (drummer/vocalist) and Seth Morrison (guitarist), Skillet garnered success with their 2009 album, “Awake”, which reached platinum status in the U.S last year. Along with Mumford & Sons and The Black Keys, these three outfits were the only rock bands to achieve this certification level in 2012.

In support of the upcoming release of “Rise”, Skillet will be hosting an Instagram photo contest on their official site. Fans can submit photos of what they are “sick of” using the hastags, #sickofit and #skillet. Skillet will be selecting their favorite photos for the band’s newest lyric video.

Produced by Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, All American Rejects), “Rise” tells the story of a typical American teen coming into adulthood and trying to figure out who he or she is in a word riddled with problems both within and outside his or her control. The relatable plot is accompanied by a plentiful musical palette, which integrates natural, acoustic instruments like the accordion, mandolin, dulcimer, harp, tympani and bells with electric guitars, strings, synths and drums.
