‘Games of Thrones’ star Richard Madden has signed on to star as Prince Charming in Disney’s upcoming live adaptation of ‘Cinderella.’ The 27-year-old Scottish actor will appear alongside ‘Downton Abbey’ star Lily James, who has been cast as the titular hero in the romance fantasy. Cate Blanchett has also been announced to portray Cinderella’s evil stepmother, Lady Tremaine.

‘Cinderella,’ which is expected to hit theaters next year, will be helmed by ‘Thor‘ director Kenneth Branagh. The romance fantasy is expected to begin filming this fall in London.

The live action version of ‘Cinderella’ was first greenlit by Disney in May 2010, in the wake of the studio’s success with Tim Burton’s live adaptation of ‘Alice In Wonderland.’ ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ scribe Aline Brosh McKenna wrote the film’s initial draft, with ‘About a Boy’ writer-director Chris Weitz providing re-writes on the script.
