Bill Hader’s character Stefon quickly became one of my favorite characters on “Saturday Night Live.” I’m sure I was like most of the country when Hader left–sad and heartbroken that there would be no more Stefon skits. However, the big send-off the character had, complete with Anderson Cooper, was awesome. It was the only way Stefon could go out.

Entertainment Weekly must count itself among the Stefon faithful, since they recently caught up with Hader to talk about the last Stefon skit and how it came together. Some of the guest stars–like Ben Affleck–were just by happenstance, while others–like the myriad of crazy people mentioned in Stefon’s skits–were culled together by “some wonderful intern,” according to Hader. That intern will now go down in the annals of history as one of the key people that helped make that last skit become a reality.

You can read about Hader’s development of the skit by clicking here. You’ll also be able to see Hader’s thoughts on the possibility of Hader coming back to “SNL” to reprise Stefon for special cameos. I can only hope a Stefon cameo becomes a reality. I sure miss that crazy character.
