We haven’t even gotten to “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” yet, but 20th Century Fox is so confident in the sequel that they’ve already greenlit a third installment. They also have Matt Reeves in place to direct.

According to Deadline, the move came after 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment viewed the cut of “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” It goes without saying that what the execs saw must have made them really excited to keep the franchise going. It also means that we, the “Apes”-loving audience, could be in for a really wild ride.

“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” also directed by Reeves, is currently in post-production and will make its way to theaters July 11, right smack-dab in the middle of the summer movie season. The story in “Dawn” is set several years after the events of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” in which the Simian Flu has killed off many of the world’s human population. The survivors (Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Jason Clarke) plan one last battle for supremacy, which leads to the battle between humanity and the apes the fans have been waiting for.
