“Sabotage” will be in theaters by the end of this week–March 28, to be exact–and, as you’ve probably seen in the trailers, the actors are ripped beyond comparison. How’d they get so in shape? Well, their training regimen was basically insane.

Joe Manganiello, who plays Joe “Grinder” Phillips in the film, discussed with Yahoo! Movies the hardcore workout and training regimen that the cast had to undergo to become a convincing SWAT team.

“I’d get into power lift at 7 a.m., workout from 7-8, then go over to do stand-up/ground MMA fighting then ground rounds,” Manganiello said. “We had to fight fresh fighters the whole time, we’d do that for an hour and a half, shower, get something to eat, then go over to the sheriff’s department to shoot handguns.” Manganiello went onto say that this training went on for weeks and the cast also had to attend night classroom sessions with real DEA agents, getting the same materials to read and instruction from a task force instructor. “We basically became a SWAT team and learned how to sweep buildings, to the point of exhaustion and falling asleep while standing.”

For Manganiello to describe the regimen in this extreme fashion is something, especially since he’s a very fit individual himself. Manganiello has just released his fitness book, “Evolution,” which includes tons of personal stories about becoming your best self as well as the six-week workout program he uses to get in werewolf shape for his “True Blood” character Alcide. “The people who have read it have found it to be very motivating and that was definitely the goal,” Manganiello said to Entertainment Weekly.

“Sabotage,” also starring Arnold Scwharzenegger, Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard, Josh Holloway and Mireille Enos, is directed by David Ayer and written by Ayer and Skip Woods.
