Lucy Gets A New Featurette

Luc Besson has been at the center of pulp genre movies since the 90s with “Nikita,” “Léon: The Professional,” and “The Fifth Element.” Besson has always balanced high action and humor with mainstream appeal. Even the movies he’s produced like Taken and The Transporter are box office hits, as they retain a steady film franchise. Besson’s new film “Lucy” stars Scarlett Johansson as a woman caught in the middle of a drug war. Universal Pictures released the film’s new video featurette that shows off Lucy’s superpowers.

“Set in a futuristic world that is run by the mob, street gangs, drug addicts and corrupted cops, Lucy (Scarlett Johansson), a woman living in Taipei, Taiwan, 2069 AD, works as a drug mule for the mob. The drug she inadvertently takes goes into her system, changing her into a metahuman. She can absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind and can’t feel pain and other discomforts.”

The movie looks really good and a lot of fun. Luc Besson’s films are pretty entertainment and Lucy looks no different. Johansson has been busy in Hollywood with movies like “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Under The Skin” on her resume. Lucy should fit nicely among those movies.

The new movie also stars Morgan Freeman, Choi Min-sik, Analeigh Tipton, Amr Waked, Pilou Asbaek, and Lee Chun, who is apparently Ang Lee’s son. Lucy opens in theaters everywhere on August 8.
