Thanks to the success of “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” Matt Reeves is now in the pantheon of trusted directors. First, he’s already signed on to direct the next “Apes” film, but there’s more. Variety is reporting that Reeves has signed a three-year overall production deal with 20th Century Fox.

The first-look deal didn’t come about solely because of “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” but the success of the film certainly doesn’t hurt matters. The studio announced the deal Friday while stating that the deal was months in the making.

“We are thrilled Matt has decided to make Fox his home,” said Emma Watts, Fox’s production president. “We have long admired his bold, intelligent approach to filmmaking. I know our collaboration on ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ is just the beginning of many great things to come.”

“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Fox,” said Reeves about the deal. “Making ‘Dawn was an incredible experience for me because, despite its scale, I was allowed to make the film with true passion.”
