Leigh Whannell goes back into The Further, as production on his new film, ‘Insidious: Chapter 3,’ is currently shooting in Los Angeles. The writer, director and actor, who is also the co-creator of the hit horror franchise, is helming the production of the follow-up. The filmmaker, who is also reprising his role of Specs from the first two installments of the series in the new sequel, once again penned the latest script in the franchise. The film’s first look set photo, which features Whannell directing some of his castmates, including returning series actress Lin Shaye, has also been released.

Focus Features, (Entertainment One) eOne, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and Blumhouse Productions, the production and distribution companies behind ‘Insidious: Chapter 3,’ announced the start of production on the second sequel in the franchise. The movie will be released by Focus Features into domestic theaters nationwide on Friday, May 29, 2015. The horror film will be distributed by eOne in Canada, the U.K. and Spain, while Sony will distribute the series’ latest entry throughout the rest of the world.

Jason Blum of Blumhouse, who produced both the previous ‘Insidious’ films, has returned for the next installment with returning producer Oren Peli. James Wan, who co-created the series with Whannell and helmed the first two films, will also serve as a producer on ‘Insidious: Chapter 3.’

Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott (of Blumhouse’s upcoming ‘Jem and the Holograms’) will star in the new entry, alongside Whannell, Shaye and Angus Sampson, the latter trio who are also reprising their roles from the first movies. . ‘Insidious: Chapter 3’ follows the terror, which predates the haunting of the Lambert family in the previous two films, that plagues a teenage girl and her family. The new entry also reveals more mysteries of the othe rworldy realm, The Further.
