Fans of The Velvet Underground must read this article, because there’s some big information about one of the band’s most legendary albums. The band’s 1969 self-titled third album is coming back for a 45th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition.

“The Velvet Underground” will be re-released by Polydor/Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) as a six-cd set with 65 tracks, featuring different mixes (including the remastered stereo mix by MGM house engineer Luis Pastor “Val” Valentin), a set of 1969 recordings from The Record Plant in New York City (recordings that were supposed to make up their fourth album), live recordings from The Matrix in San Francisco and a case-bound book and liner notes by Rolling Stone editor David Fricke.

The album was a break from the band’s business as usual due to co-founding member John Cale leaving and the introduction of Doug Yule. The album was also new for the band stylistically. As Fricke calls it, the album is “a stunning turnaround” featuring tracks of “mostly warm, explicit sympathy and optimism, expressed with melodic clarity[.]”

The album will also be released through other digital partners including HD Audio and MFiT formats. Below a is a full track listing. You will be able to buy “The Velvet Underground” 45th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition Nov. 24.
