Reflecting on your most gratifying and agonizing experiences can be a powerful motivator as you not only strive to achieve your most enthralling life-long desires, as well as prove your sincere genuineness in your goals, but to also reestablish important connections, and show your determination in improving yourself. Acclaimed guitarist Andy Blunda, who first garnered attention when he played with Fastball during their height of fame in the late 1990s, is proving his storied history touring with various bands throughout his career has powerfully prepared him for his current solo career. After releasing his enthralling relatable second solo EP, ‘Messages,’ in early February, Blunda has just unveiled his latest single, the alluring ‘Surrender,’ in which he grippingly reveals he’s seeking redemption to fully embrace his decisions.

Staring with a 30-second serene, soothing indie-rock guitar-fueled introduction, ‘Surrender’ powerfully gives way to Blunda’s dominant voice. The musician’s gritty lyrics realistically chronicle the harrowing struggle of seeing the pained emotions on the face of the person you love, and having to take responsibility that your actions caused that sorrow. After seriously contending with how your decisions can truly hurt someone you deeply care about, the singer also passionately reveled in needing to surrender yourself to correcting the choices that hurt them.

The gratifying mixture of Blunda’s edgy guitar riffs and commanding voice throughout ‘Surrender’s entirety also naturally emotes the musician’s realization that he needs to seek redemption. That recovery will not only repair his bond with the person he loves, but also fortify his attempts to better his own decisions and life path. Through the musician’s expressive and dramatic tone in both his singing and guitar-playing, which are enthrallingly reminiscent of the rock music he helped make popular with Fastball in the 1990s, his new solo single is a commanding insight into how people’s connections and choices they make in their relationships largely define who they are.

Blunda, who also recorded two albums with the alternative rock band Paloalto after he left Fastball, bravely revealed his difficult battle with his personal demons led to his desire to not only reestablish important connections, but also his determination in improving himself. Through his harrowing lyrics and guitar riffs on ‘Surrender,’ the musician not only powerfully conveyed his intimate, yet universal, journey that threatened his freedom and relationship, but the hope and strength that he ultimately found in the process of overcoming his life’s biggest struggles.
