EP: Good Boy

Production: Recorded at Rec Room Recordings with Scott Flammer and Red Room Recordings with Daniel Kirkpatrick

Powerfully and soulfully contemplating the misgivings of the challenges and ending of a meaningful, soul-bearing love can be a difficult process for many people to contend with as they try to save the relationship anyway they can. Orange County singer-songwriter Nate Paladino relatably explored the at-times painful details about coping with the consequences of his decisions that contributed to the rift in his connection with the woman he loves in his new EP, ‘Good Boy,’ which is now available on iTunes. The six distinctly emotional songs on the blues, ballad and pop-infused EP enthrallingly capture the musician’s diverse feelings of heartbreak, hatred and defeat about not being able to reconnect with the woman he loves.

‘Good Boy,’ which also effortlessly captures an emotional intimacy that has become the signature styles of such famed musicians as Johnny Cash, Lana del Rey and Nick Cave, while also entrancingly incorporating an alternative rock feeling into Paladino’s captivating soul-searching journey, begins with the entrancing ‘My Kind of Bitch.’ The blues-pop-inspired guitar introduction, combined with the singer’s folk-inspired vocals, emotionally chronicles his determination to wait for the woman he loves. He isn’t deterred by the fact that she has flaws and continuously gives him excuses about why she can’t truly commit to him; he just wants to spend anytime possible with her. While he knows he shouldn’t accept her behavior, his devoted love leads him to accept her for who she is, and not fight with her about her choices.

Paladino’s declaration of accepting the woman he loves for who she truly is intriguingly leads into the sentimental, country-infused song, ‘Buy Your Heart.’ Stating he wants to treat the woman he wants right, and do anything to make her happy, he’s determined to do whatever it takes to make their life together better. He’s willing to buy her things to make her love him again, like she did at the beginning of their relationship. The song intriguingly explores how he won’t take her new apathy towards him to heart.

The musician’s heartfelt pondering of how his relationship faltered leads into the captivatingly upbeat song, ‘Don’t Say Maybe.’ The 1960’s pop and swing-infused track alluring chronicles how Paladino chivalrously wants to make the woman he’s courting happy by bringing her out on the town. While he tries to impress her so she won’t say maybe to a possible romantic relationship, he relatably doesn’t understand why she won’t reciprocate the same feelings for him, as it’s clear to everyone that he loves her.

The EP then gracefully recaptures the slower, sentimental guitars and instrumentals reminiscent of ‘Buy Your Heart’ in the song, ‘Come Back Home.’ While admitting that his relationship with the woman he loves isn’t stable, he also won’t accept that she would leave him. Paladino knows he has found the woman for him, and asks her to come back, in order to repair their relationship. He vulnerably asks her not to break his heart, as he knows she’s the right girl for him. While he adds that he knows he wasn’t the type of man she was looking to build a life with, he’s willing to do anything to please her.

Paladino’s soulful lyrics powerfully give way to the country-infused and gritty track, ‘Something to Prove.’ The singer acknowledges that while he has broken hearts in the past, he doesn’t want to hurt the woman he’s with now, and emotionally asks for the chance to prove how good he is for her. While he knows the pain he’s caused her, he wants a second chance to prove he truly loves her, and can repair her trust in him.

The upbeat song powerfully translates into the emotionally memorable and touching ‘Friend in Need.’ The singer-songwriter explains he wants to become a better father, who can completely support his child, despite the differences they have faced throughout their relationship. He acknowledges the fact that starting over and repairing their bond won’t be simple, and there’s no sense of shielding his child from who he truly is, but he wants to stay by their side. While he enthrallingly states that he’ll always be here to pick them up and shield them from pain, he’ll also look at them for help to stay strong when he feels like he’s breaking down.

Through his captivating soul-searching journey to enthralling cope with the consequences of his actions that contributed to the rift in his relationship with the woman he loves in his new EP, ‘Good Boy,’ Paladino created an emotionally intense set of soul-bearing songs. Through his equally emotional blues, ballad and pop-infused instrumentals and vocals, all of the EP’s tracks enthrallingly capture the musician’s diverse feelings of heartbreak, hatred and defeat about not being able to reconnect with the woman he loves.
