New movie alert! Paramount Pictures, New Regency and Plan B Entertainment has announced that “The Big Short,” a movie written and directed by Adam McKay of “Anchorman” franchise and “The Other Guys” fame, will begin filming in New Orleans. Also announced were several big names associated with the film.

Christian Bale, Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt will star in the film as well as Melissa Leo and Marisa Tomei. Also starring in the film are Tracy Letts, Hamish Linklater, Byron Mann, John Magaro, Rafe Spall, Jeremy Strong and Finn Wittrock.

McKay based the script for “The Big Short” on another script by Charles Randolph (“Love and Other Drugs”) and the bestselling nonfiction book, “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine,” written by Michael Lewis.

The film is set during the time of the extreme housing bubble. If you’ve been following the country’s financial and economic issues, you’ll know exactly what the housing bubble led to. Here’s more about the film:

“‘THE BIG SHORT’ is the remarkable true story of the genius contrarian investors who, recognizing just how insane the housing bubble had become, figured out how to “short” the market prior to the financial collapse of 2008.”
