Augie Baccus (Jeremy Sumpter) is a golf phenom, struggling to provide for his mother and sister in Texas. He’s got a beautiful girlfriend and big plans for their future. After Augie breaks a record in a golf tournament, he catches the eye of a gambler named Shooter McGavin Riverboat (Christopher McDonald) and his golddigging trophy wife “The Bank” (Katherine LaNasa) who want him to use his talent for gambling. Much to the dismay of Augie’s girlfriend Natalie (Jillian Murray) whom gives him an ultimatum, he gives up his shot at qualifying for the PGA to go with Riverboat and his wife to Las Vegas in order to hustle a pro golfer for some big money. Then they all get involved in the wrong kind of scam with crime boss Jimmy Diamonds (Michael Nouri) and Augie must find a way out of the partnership and get back to his old life alive.

The Good: I can’t think of one. It’s got Christian morals galore if you’re into that.

The Bad: This is yet another based on a true story film that didn’t have to be told. The story isn’t even interesting enough to even mention that it was a true story.  The film is so predictable, I felt robbed of 93 minutes. This film is oozing with religious propaganda and the evils of gambling, sex and straying from the rightious path. Has writer/director Terry Jastrow ever done drugs or had promiscuous sex? Apparently he and his wife (producer) Anne Archer are not of the Christian faith, but the script plays out like a Sunday school teacher’s attempt at adult fiction.

I do not recommend wasting your Redbox dollar on this film once it becomes available, and especially not full price at the cinema. I was bored. The driving off into the distance to the tune of I’m Gonna Be 500 Miles was as hokey as you can get. This is 2015, seriously WTF?
