Rico Rodriguez’s ultimate goal is to avoid further punishment in Shockya’s new exclusive clip from his upcoming drama, ‘Endgame.’ The ‘Modern Family’ actor stars as Jose in the film, who turns to his grandmother for help in the video, which is titled ‘Jose is in Trouble.’ The clip has been unveiled in support of the drama’s distribution by Late Bloomer Productions in theaters tomorrow in L.A., before it expands to more screens on October 2.

‘Jose is in Trouble’ follows Jose as he arrives on the doorstep of his grandmother, Abuelita, who’s played by Ivonne Coll. She immediately asks her grandson what happened to him, as his clothes and school backpack are covered in dirt. When Jose then rushes inside and insists his grandmother close the front door, so that he can change his clothes, there’s a knock at the door, much to their dismay. Abuelita reluctantly agrees to cover for Jose when she answers the door, and finds that her daughter, Karla, who’s portrayed by Justina Machado, is looking for her son. When Abuelita tells her daughter that Jose isn’t there, Karla informs her that Jose got detention. Karla also asks her mother that she send him home if he shows up at her house.

After he changes his clothes, Abuelita offers to teach Jose one of his grandfather’s favorite chess maneuvers, which is called Home Away From Home, much to his reluctance. As she shows him how to best move his pawn, knight and bishop, Jose begins to feel better about his situation.

Besides Rodriguez, Coll and Machado, ‘Endgame’ also features Efren Ramirez, Jon Gries, Valente Rodriguez, Alina Herrera, Cassie Brennan and Xavier Gonzalez. The drama was directed by Carmen Marron, who also co-wrote the script with Hector Salinas. The scribe-helmer also co-produced the project with Sandra Avila.

Late Bloomer Productions has released the following synopsis for ‘Endgame’:

Since he was 5-years-old, Jose’s abuelita taught him to play chess like his grandfather, who was a champion in Mexico. Now as part of the Brownsville school team, Jose has the chance to use his skills and for once in his life, finds himself in the spotlight, as he tries to help his team make it to the Texas state finals. As their coach, Mr. Alvarado, teaches his students the meaning of perseverance and team effort in the face of adversity, Jose discovers his own strengths and uses them to bring his broken family together.
