Clifton Powell is relying on his faith to inspire hope that all men can obtain their freedom in his new drama, ‘The North Star.’ In honor of RLJ Entertainment releasing the inspirational film today, Shockya is premiering an exclusive new clip from the movie, titled ‘Strength in Numbers.’

‘The North Star’ made its streaming premiere last month for Black History Month on UMC – Urban Movie Channel, a premium subscription-based video streaming service created by Robert L. Johnson, the chairman of RLJ Entertainment and founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET). The independent entertainment distributor is releasing the drama today on Video On Demand, as well as on DVD for an SRP of $27.97.

Thomas K. Phillips, who co-scribed the drama’s script with Tim O’Connell, made his feature film writing, directorial and producing debuts on the drama. RLJ Entertainment, which has noted that the drama is based on a true story of courage and the will to be free, has unveiled the following synopsis for ‘The North Star’:

For black slaves Big Ben (ex-NFL Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter) and Moses (Thomas C. Bartley, Jr.), the only thing worse than the daily cruelty of life on a Virginia plantation is the fear of being hunted down and tortured as runaways. But when Ben learns he is about to be sold to a new owner, he and Moses make the desperate choice to run. Evading brutal slave hunters and with only the light of the North Star as their guide, the pair make the grueling journey across hostile land to the free state of Pennsylvania. Even when a community of kind-hearted abolitionists welcomes them, Ben and Moses realize that their perilous struggle for freedom continues.
