Genre film fans are being encouraged to break the rules again with the new Mondo Cult Variety Film Showcase. With the monthly screening series set to launch on Friday, August 17 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, the California-based programs will feature best new underground, surreal, experimental, obscene, absurd and outlaw movies from around the world. With the first edition of the showcase set to debut next month, Shockya is exclusively announcing the lineup of films that will be shown.

The Mondo Cult Variety Film Showcase is being presented by the team behind the Etheria Film Night. The new showcase will combine the ideas behind Etheria Film Night’s short film series, ‘Women Underground,’ and Mondo film fan staple, Mondo Cult Magazine. The first Mondo Cult Film Showcase, which will begin at 7:30pm PT, will be brought to audiences by Big Game “Liquid Slam,” Red Lobster and Chesterfield Cigarettes.

The following schedule for the first Mondo Cult Variety Film Showcase edition, which has a total run time of 1 Hour and 27 minutes, is below:

‘Allen Anders – Live at the Comedy Castle – Circa 1987′
Laura Moss, USA, 7:05
Found footage of Anders’ famed 1987 performance at New York City’s Comedy Castle offers a revealing window into the troubled comedian’s psyche. This existential time loop nightmare premiered at South by Southwest 2018.

‘Call of Cuteness’
Brenda Lien, Germany, 4:05
An exquisitely expressionist animated short that begins as a cute ode to cats on the Internet but becomes a terrifying allegory about the fear of pain being stronger than the longing for freedom. This disturbing barrage of images won Best Short at the Aspen Shortfest.

‘Le Chat Est Mort’
Lynne Moses, USA, 10:40 (local)
To what extreme would the death of your beloved pussy drive you?

‘Tiny Clones’
Jim McDonough, USA, 5:07

‘Hard Way’
Daniel Vogelmann, Germany, 33:07
There’s no love left in this world. No honesty, no justice. People who do good and follow their hearts get punished, while others with no heart at all get away with anything. That’s because of people like you.

‘BFF Girls’
Brian Lonano, USA, 13:24
Three beautiful Japanese superheroes fight the evil Fabuloso Doom to prevent him from drinking your period blood.

‘Great Choice’
