With Halloween quickly approaching in a few weeks, genre fans are determinedly searching for media that combine the aesthetics of ghost stories and intense monster horror. Director Marcel Walz has creatively blended the two his new film, ‘Rootwood,’ which combines elements of found footage with the ghost element to create a unique horror experience.

In honor of ‘Rootwood’s upcoming distribution, a new official trailer and poster have been released, which feature a quote from ShockYa about the drama! We describe the intriguing mystery movie as “A memorable entry in the genre!” Check out our quote in the trailer at the 1:37 mark, and on the poster in the upper left hand corner. New stills from the thriller have also been unveiled.

‘Rootwood’ features Elissa Dowling (‘Tales of Halloween,’ ‘Starry Eyes’), Tyler Gallant (‘Alpha Wolf’), Sarah French (‘Ouija House,’ ‘California Dreaming’), Felissa Rose (‘Victor Crowley,’ ‘Sleepaway Camp’) and Brandon Rhea (‘Ultimate Justice,’ ‘Push’). The horror film was written by Mario von Czapiewski.

The following synopsis has been released for ”Rootwood”:

Two students, Jessica (Dowling) and William (Gallant), are hosts of ‘The Spooky Hour,’ a podcast about paranormal phenomena and urban legends. When they are hired by Hollywood film producer, Laura Benott (Rose), to produce a horror documentary about the Curse of the Wooden Devil, they smell a chance to become famous. Together with their friend Erin (French), they enter Rootwood Forest and investigate the area to find out the truth about the wooden devil and his victims.
