Helen Mirren Joins Red

ScreenDaily.com mentions that Helen Mirren has joined the cast of “Red” alongside Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman. Her role has not been announced yet so far.
An adaptation of the Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner comic book from Homage/Wildstorm Comics in 2003-2004, “Red” is about a former CIA hitman named Paul Moses (Willis) who is targeted by his former employers for liquidation. Informing his handler that he was going “red”, meaning active, he sets out for some answers and revenge.
Screenrant is speculating that Mirren will play Moses’ handler.
The film is slated to shoot in Toronto and Louisiana soon, and will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian. [...]

Red Starts Filming In January

According to reports from Comics2Film.com and Mania.com, the big-screen adaptation of the comic book “Red” from renowned writer Warren Ellis will be starting filming in January 2010.
Comics2film.com writes that principle photography for the Robert Schwentke-directed film, adapted from the 2003/2004 Wildstorm/Homage Comics book, “is slated for Toronto. It’ll move to Hollywood’s new hot spot, Louisiana, following that”.
The film follows a former CIA hitman who is targeted for a sanctioned elimination to cover up his very existence. He decides to go “red”, meaning on the hunt, for who exactly ordered the hit.
Starring Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman, no release date has been set yet.

Robert Schwentke In Talks To Direct Red

Robert Schwentke, director of “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” is in talks to direct the adaptation of the Warren Ellis DC/Wildstorm miniseries comic book “Red” for Summit Entertainment, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The project will star Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman, and was written by Erich and Jon Hoeber. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing.
The espionage film follows a former black-ops agent who comes out of retirement when a high-tech assassin threatens him and his girlfriend, forcing him to go to condition “Red,” meaning active and dangerous.
There is no more information released on “Red” so far.

Morgan Freeman Joins Red

Variety is reporting that Morgan Freeman is in talks to star in “Red”, the comic adaptation of the Vertigo/DC title from Summit Entertainment that will also star Bruce Willis.
Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber are writing the script, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing. Gregory Noveck from DC will serve as executive producer.

Comic book writer Mark Millar (”Wanted”, “The Ultimates”) is speaking out about the decision to have screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos attached to Universal’s “Wanted 2″, which will be based on a story by Chris Morgan.
Millar specifically mentioned on his website’s message board the Spiliotopoulos’s credit as co-writer of “Pooh’s Heffalump Movie” and the straight-to-DVD spin-off in the Winnie The Pooh franchise. He said;

The Adjustment Bureau Picked Up By Universal

The Hollywood Reporter says that Universal Pictures has signed on to produce The Adjustment Bureau, which has Matt Damon attached to the lead role.
The Bourne Ultimatum writer George Nolfi has written the script for The Adjustment Bureau and will also make his directorial debut with the film.
The sci-fi action movie stars Damon as a politician who falls for a ballerina, only to find that mysterious forces are keeping the two apart. The Adjustment Bureau is loosely based on a Philip K. Dick short story.
Aside from The Bourne Ultimatum, Damon and Nolfi have worked together before on Ocean’s Twelve, as actor and writer, respectively. He previously wrote the scripts for Timeline [...]

Nominees for Academy Awards were announced this morning, among them “The Dark Knight” and “Milk” with eight each. Actors such as Mickey Rourke (”The Wrestler”) and Richard Jenkins (”The Visitor”) are up for Actor In A Leading Role, with other actors and actresses nominated for their films this past year including the late Heath Ledger, Josh Brolin, Anne Hathaway, and Kate Winslet. Films up for Best Picture include “Slumdog Millionaire”, “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button”, “The Reader”, “Milk”, and “Frost/Nixon”. Also to note, “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” starring Ron Perlman and Doug Jones (Carnies, Pan’s Labyrinth) was nominated for Achievement in Makeup.
