Friday the 13th may have come and gone, but how about letting that eerie feeling last a little longer? In fact, that’s exactly what director James Watkins is hoping to achieve with The Woman in Black. He explained, “I wanted to make scares that really linger with people, real chills that when they walk out of the cinema, stay with them slightly.” With The Woman in Black‘s February 3rd release right around the corner, we get a brand new featurette called “Creating a Classic Ghost Story,” which includes insight from Watkins, Daniel Radcliff, producer Simon Oakes and more. The piece runs through a number of elements like the story itself,…

Even Helmuth has a love for horror films, which made “The Devil Inside” a high priority. “I’m a huge fan of the genre,” he said. “I’m always fascinated by what terrifies people…how the state of the country can influence horror movies.” For his role as priest David, Helmuth did a lot of research on exorcisms, both the religious and scientific sides of the phenomenon. “We all did a ton of research individually [on exorcisms]. I did that before going to Bucharest [to film] and after shooting, we’d talk about the rights and medical history of the patients.” For Helmuth, he and the cast and crew were very focused on showing…

Fernanda Andrade said one of the defining characteristics of her character from “The Devil Inside,” Isabella was hope. “I think I started [exploring the character] from exploring the event itself,” the event being Isabella’s mother’s (Suzan Crowley) brutal murdering spree which landed her in the Catholic psychiatric ward, the idea being that she was–and still is–possessed. “[Isabella] has dealt with it her entire life, and is defined by it, so she goes out in search of the truth. With the search, there’s the hope that she isn’t insane and that she can have her mother back but there’s also the fear of ‘Could it happen to me.’” Being able to…

The North American rights to the upcoming suspense thriller ‘The Victim, starring Michael Biehn and Jennifer Blanc, have been picked up by Anchor Bay Films. Preferred Content made the deal with Biehn, who also wrote the film, which will serve as his directorial debut. Biehn said from the first day of shooting, he “had hoped that Anchor Bay would be interested in ‘The Victim.’ I’m very happy that they will be working with us to distribute it.” He added that he loved making a true grindhouse film, which Kevin Kasha, the Executive Vice President, Acquisitions and Co-Productions for Anchor Bay Films, said audiences won’t be disappointed with. ‘The Victim’ follows…

Title: The Devil Inside Director: William Brent Bell (‘Stay Alive‘) Starring: Fernanda Andrade (‘Sons of Anarchy’), Simon Quarterman (‘The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior’) and Evan Helmuth (‘Fever Pitch’) Dramatizing a supposedly real exorcism in the ever-popular found footage sub-genre is a frighteningly effective plot element for horror directors. Despite the early success of the sub-genre with such acclaimed hits as ‘The Blair Witch Project,’ ‘Cloverfield’ and ‘Paranormal Activity,’ the real-life use of terrifying shots has lost its efficiency in scaring viewers. ‘The Devil Inside,’ the latest entry in the found footage category that claims to be inspired by actual events, is the perfect example of why the pieced-together…

Odds are, when you consider the horror genre in general, you’re thinking bloodbaths, vicious villains and relentless scare tactics. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, wouldn’t you like to give a different type of scare a go for a change? Ti West’s The Innkeepers focuses on The Yankee Pedlar Inn, a quaint hotel with a spooky past on the verge of being shut down for good. For the establishment’s final weekend in business, its sole remaining employees, Claire and Luke (Sara Paxton and Pat Healy), opt to spend the night so that when they’re not tending to the Inn’s mere three guests, they can explore and perhaps catch the…

Title: Beneath the Darkness Director: Martin Guigui (‘Raging Bull II’) Starring: Dennis Quaid, Aimee Teegarden (TV’s ‘Friday Night Lights’) and Tony Oller (TV’s ‘Gigantic’) The appeal of living in small American towns is that everyone knows their neighbors, and they’re a safe environment for children to grow up in. But when a seemingly respectable pillar of the community is actually full of rage, and is willing to unleash fear on anyone who threatens to expose his secrets, the psychological terror is enough to frighten anyone. That’s certainly the case in the new horror-thriller ‘Beneath the Darkness,’ a chilling character-driven film which effectively relies on its characters’ motives and reactions, instead…
