Interview: Black Veil Brides frontman talks Warped, Image and even The Crow reboot

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

“We don’t hide what we are.” That statement makes perfect sense to those familiar with Black Veil Brides. Yet lead singer Andy Biersack still finds himself uttering those words every now and then. Only because he is at times prodded to address their over-the-top look in various interviews. The topic came up in our chat as I alluded to all the negative comments plastered on message boards when preparing to speak with the 20 year-old who created the more-or-less theatrical rock-n-metal band six years ago. They also have their fair share of supporters as well… “We sort of stick out like a sore thumb in most situations when it comes…

SDCC 2011: All Good Things Must Come To An End ... With A Giveaway!

Monday, July 25th, 2011

I can’t believe it, but this is officially it; my coverage of San Diego Comic Con 2011 has come to a close. For five incredibly long days, the experience went by in a flash. The action was non-stop from the moment I touched down in San Diego and while it was extremely exhausting and probably one of the most trying working experiences I’ve ever gone through, it was beyond worth it. So, what’d you think? Did you like my coverage choices? Were the formats I chose to report in effective? Do let me know because I’m thrilled to say, it looks as though I’ll be returning to Comic Con next…

SDCC 2011: Torchwood Panel LIVE

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

And we’re back in Ballroom 20, a little late, but with more than enough time to catch some of the goods from the Torchwood: Miracle Day panel. The event is already underway and from where I’m sitting, I can see John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Alexa Havins, Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman and producer Jane Trante. Apologies in advance for any poor name-spelling as I’m not particularly familiar with the show. 10:20 – Will we find out where Captain Jack went after Children of Earth? Barrowman says no, but perhaps it could be something to explore in another series. “Make up what you want. I just thought Jack had a great time…

DJ Caruso

I Am Number Four director DJ Caruso on casting, shooting the film

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

DJ Caruso held a virtual roundtable today in order to discuss his film, “I Am Number Four”, which is coming out on DVD and Blu-Ray May 24. In the roundtable, Caruso discussed how he cast the film and some of the challenges that arose while filming. When asked about how he cast the characters, Caruso wrote, “Alex brought a strong physical presence and he also had a very accessible quality. Dianna [Agron] had a grace and intelligence that the character required. Callan was perfect for Sam because he embodied Sam’s pain and struggle, but maintained a cool quality. Teresa was just plain kick ass in the room.” Caruso wrote that…

Interview: Robert Carradine chats career and his latest Fancypants at Sunscreen Film Festival

Monday, April 18th, 2011

There’s a select group of actors who are fortunate enough to make an imprint on the history of cinema with a character they‘ve portrayed. For instance, Robert Englund will always go down as the iconic slasher Freddy Kreuger. Daniel Radcliffe will be looked upon as the heroic young wizard in Harry Potter. And Robert Carradine could possibly go down as Hollywood’s most famous nerd. Carradine, better known for his hilarious depiction of “Lewis Skolnick” in the comedy-classic Revenge of the Nerds franchise, has been a mainstay in the competitive film industry. A member of the Carradine acting tradition, he has continued to work in a variety of studio driven features…

Bethany Hamilton at Soul Surfer premiere

Interview: Bethany Hamilton chats about passions and 'Soul Surfer'

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Three things went through my mind after talking with Bethany Hamilton on the front lawn outside of the Tampa Tribune: She is irresistibly likeable and has the purest soul (pardon the pun). And she says “like” more than I do when trying to explain something (the lexicon of our generation at its finest). Bethany Hamilton was cruising around the country, doing a preemptive media strike prior to the release of Soul Surfer – the movie based on her amazing story – which hits theaters on April 8th. The flick covers the time period where the promising young surfer was attacked by a shark off the shores of Hawaii. The publicized…

Interview: Tom Berenger honored at Gasparilla International Film Festival

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

The best interviews are always the ones that fall outside a formal setting. Press junkets, roundtables and conference calls serve a purpose, but there just too safe and processed. Even in-depth television chats fail to capture who someone truly is a lot of the time. And this is why a modern-journalist like myself, looks forward to film festival season. Especially when they come to my neck of the woods. Meeting accomplished actors at a film festival allows one to get a better feel for their personality. And when I yapped with Tom Berenger at the 5th annual Gasparilla International Film Festival this past weekend, the atmosphere was quite relaxing. Which…

M Emmet Walsh

Interview: M. Emmet Walsh reflects on Hollywood career

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

“Ah, I don’t know…They just want to get to the bar and get by me.” That’s what M. Emmet Walsh told yours truly when we were reflecting on all the people that kept coming up to him at the 5th annual Gasparilla International Film Festival opening night festivities. Walsh was being honored by GIFF with their Lifetime Achievement Award. His film and television career has spanned over six decades – more if you count his stage credits. Chances are you know his face if you’re having trouble placing the name. The 76 year-old Walsh was both gracious and baffled about why GIFF was honoring him at the Tampa Theatre. He…
