Cherri Bomb Has No Plans To Runaway

Cherri Bomb

With no Kim Fowley in sight, Cherri Bomb will have a shot to outlast the most groundbreaking girl rock group of all time, The Runaways. Yes, Fowley is a musical genius, but his outlandish behavior would not suffice in the music industry of the 21st Century. The Runaways’ similarities don’t end just with the gender and age of Cherri Bomb’s members, emphasis on the Cherri Bomb. If the band name sounds unfamiliar then Kim Fowley probably didn’t ring a bell either, but regardless, The Runaways had a hit song titled “Cherry Bomb”. The band comparisons will end here because Cherri Bomb is a part of an entirely different generation and  [ Read More ]

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real

While Bobbi Christina did not get any vocal chops from either Bobby Brown or Whitney Houston, the same cannot be said about Willie Nelson’s son, Lukas Nelson. That will be the last name drop of the iconic and unconventional country singer, Willie Nelson. Lukas’s talents take him beyond receiving “good genes” and bring his sound into a genre that cannot be categorized since it was originated by his band, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real. The all-encompassing country, rock n’ roll and soul group will release their second full-length album, “Wasted”, on April 3rd. The quartet, which includes vocalist and guitarist, Lukas, drummer, Anthony LoGerfo, percussionist, Tato Melgar and  [ Read More ]

Thick As A Brick 2

Jethro Tull fans, have you been waiting for another album from the progressive rock band? If so, your wait is officially over! Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson has created the sequel to the 1972 Billboard number one classic album “Thick As A Brick,” “Thick As A Brick 2.” For those who don’t know the lyrics to songs in the first “Brick” were credited to fictitious child character Gerald Bostock, whose parents supposedly lied about his age. The sequel will not only follow what Bostock (who would be 50 this year) would be doing today, but will also be a commemoration of the first “Brick.” According to the release, “Brick 2″ will  [ Read More ]

Redlight King

Acoustic videos serve the purpose of giving listeners “live music” without purchasing a ticket to a concert. Technically, you can say these clips are ripping off artists from earning the ticket income. If you look at it from another angle, you can also say these acoustic videos are luring listeners into a band’s music, which will in turn increase ticket revenue. The alternative rockers, Redlight King, will work the latter statement on you with the acoustic video for the Top 10 Active Rock Radio hit, “Bullet In My Hand”, which is off of the band’s debut album, “Something For The Pain”, available now on iTunes. Taylor Momsen Of The Pretty Reckless

As much as 90s music fans crave the rebirth of grunge, wariness of how it is resurrected is typically what hampers the evolution of it. Who wants to compete with the Grunge God, Kurt Cobain? Those who have tried to re-root grunge have often failed immediately due to the fact that the grunge ground does not need sowing, rather nurturing. There is no need to clear the roots and replant the seeds. Cobain already provided future artists with the grunge foundation, now it is their job to keep it flourishing by expanding on the 90s sound with the originality of the current decade. Do you need an example of how  [ Read More ]

AWOLNATION SHOWS NO SIGNS OF STOPPING

Posted by lonnie On February - 28 - 2012 0 Comment

ShockYa is forever indebted to AWOLNATION. The Aaron Bruno fronted group dropped it’s debut album, “Megalithic Symphony”, on March 15th, 2011, but the release date is irrelevant, since the full-length still sounds as refreshing as it did last Spring. If the outfit’s electro-rock sound isn’t as contagiously vivacious as it was for you in 2011 then the group will remind you with a live clip of the song, “Soul Wars”. AWOLNATION took to the stage to perform the track last year at La Zona Rosa in Austin, Texas. Took to the stage should be replaced with tore the stage up. Bruno simply commands the platform under his feet with his  [ Read More ]
