New York Film Festival 2014: Stray Dog Gets A New Trailer

Posted by Rudie Obias On August - 23 - 2014 0 Comment

Debra Granik could have gone in any number of directions after the success of Winter’s Bone. She decided to focus on a documentary portrait of Ron “Stray Dog” Hall (who played Thump Milton in the 2010 film), an aging biker and RV park manager from southern Missouri. When we are introduced to Hall and his friends, they appear to be the very image of “middle America” held by New Yorkers: hard-drinking (moonshine, no less), gun-toting, tattooed motorcycle freaks. Slowly, gradually, another image comes into view, of a man who has been permanently altered by his tours of duty in Vietnam, who has come to terms with himself and acquired a  [ Read More ]

Ed2

When seminal documentarian Ed Pincus, considered the father of first person non-fiction film, is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he and collaborator Lucia Small team up to make one last film, much to the chagrin of Jane, Ed’s wife of 50 years. Told from two filmmakers’ points of view, ONE CUT, ONE LIFE challenges the form of first person documentary. Ed and Lucia’s unique approach to filming offers a vulnerability and intimacy rarely seen in non- fiction, questioning whether some things might be too private to be made public. The film is an intense, raw, and sometimes humorous exploration of the human condition which invites the viewer to contemplate for  [ Read More ]

We didn’t know who would be starring alongside him, but now we have that information! Warner Bros. stated in a press release the film’s full cast, including some heavy hitters. Joseph Gordon-Levitt Don Jon

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been working on the “Sandman” film adaptation for a while. Fans of his are certain he can do a great job, but the big question is probably when the film is actually going to be made. Gordon-Levitt talks about the progress of the film with Moviefone during an interview for “Sin City: A Dame To Kill For,” and the short of it is that bringing a faithful “Sandman” adaptation to film is harder than one might think, especially those not initiated into the world of “Sandman.” “It’s a lot of the same people who worked on the Nolan ‘Batman’ movies. It’s really exciting. There’s not a script  [ Read More ]
