Teddy Bears

Sundance 2012 Movie Review: Teddy Bear

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Title: Teddy Bear Director: Mads Matthiesen Cast: Kim Kold, David Winters, Elsebeth Steentoft and Lamaiporn Hougaard Just saying the word “teddy bear” invokes ideas of something huggable, soft and snuggly (yes, I said “snuggly”). It’s hard to imagine this word when it is placed against a giant muscle bound bodybuilder, but after watching Mads Matthiesen’s “Teddy Bear,” it’s an apt comparison that not only pertains to the protagonist of this film but also the film itself. It also serves as a reminder not to judge a book by its cover. “Teddy Bear” follows the story of Dennis, a 38 year old bodybuilder from Denmark, who longs for love while his…

Demi Moore Hospitalized For Substance Abuse and Drops Out of Lovelace

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Demi Moore was hospitalized on January 24, 2012, reportedly to seek professional help for a substance abuse problem, exhaustion and to improve her overall health, TMZ is reporting. A friend of the ‘Margin Call’ actress called 911 at 10:45 pm, after she started shaking and acting as though she was suffering from a seizure, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s incident report. When paramedics responded to Moore’s L.A. home, they assessed her for half an hour, and then transported her to a local hospital. Moore’s rep confirmed the actress was hospitalized, and added that “she looks forward to getting well and is grateful for the support of her family…

Young and Wild

Sundance 2012 Movie Review: Young & Wild

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

Title: Young & Wild Director: Marialy Rivas Cast: Alicia RodrĂguez, Aline Kuppenheim, MarĂa Gracia Omegna and Felipe Pinto I feel it’s really a hard (no pun intended) undertaking to accurately portray love and sex in a teenager’s life in movies. Some movies might take a more romantic route, while other’s would take a more “high school comedy” route, but in Chilean filmmaker Marialy Rivas’ new film, “Young & Wild,” shows love and sex in an intimate, albeit hyper, way. The hyperactivity serves as a teenager’s attention span, going from subject to subject in a, would be, random way. As the story unfolds that intimacy endears the audience to the main…

Lindsay Sloane

Lindsay Sloane Talks Sex, Theme Parties, A Good Old Fashioned Orgy

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Possessing crack comedic timing, beauty and yet still a sympathetic visage and demeanor, Lindsay Sloane exudes girl-next-door goodness, a quality which has kept her steadily employed in a variety of mostly sunny roles in both movies and television. It’s exactly these traits which writer-directors Peter Hyuck and Alex Gregory wished to deploy in subversive manner by casting Sloane in their bawdy comedy “A Good Old Fashioned Orgy,” just out on DVD last week. ShockYa had a chance to sit down and chat with Sloane about the uniquely titled ensemble movie, as well as her off-screen thoughts on its subject matter and what exactly the “orgy cut-off number” is that makes her uncomfortable. The…

Movie News Cheat Sheet: Abrams Gets His Villain And Bigelow Gets Her Leading Man While Lee Misses Out On Another

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

I guess this is really the first Movie News Cheat Sheet of the year. Sure, we ran one on January 1st, but considering that edition was packed with the top stories of 2011, this is your first taste of the best of the best in movie news for 2012. There’s a couple big casting updates to report from Joel Edgerton signing on to lead Kathryn Bigelow’s Osama bin Laden feature to Spike Lee losing another villain option for his remake of Oldboy. Then, of course, awards season nominations continue to come in and this time around, it’s the Writers Guild and Producers Guild pinpointing the finest films of last year….

Fright Night

DVD Review: Fright Night, Catch .44, Carjacker and Maniac Cop

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

A pumped-up remake of the same-named 1984 vampire horror-comedy, “Fright Night” represents a well oiled machine of goosed senses that unfortunately has no clearly defined motivating purposes, even within genre confines of its own story. Fun and engaging performances carry the movie a great distance, but it eventually bogs down courtesy of loosely defined stakes (no pun intended) and poorly incentivized action. The story centers on Las Vegas high school senior Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin), who lives with his single mom real estate agent, Jane (Toni Collette), and has successfully pivoted away from his geeky past enough to bag a popular girlfriend, Amy (Imogen Poots). Things get turned upside down…

Movies News Cheat Sheet: Santa Brings Trailers And Posters For Christmas, Box Office Gets Scrooged

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

After a morning packed with Christmas presents, consider this Movie News Cheat Sheet a bit of an after dinner drink to the main meal. Okay, not every item on this week’s list will bring you comfort and joy, but the good most certainly outweighs the not so good. Not a fan of 3D? It pains me to report that both The Avengers and Star Trek 2 will go under the post conversion knife. On the bright and unrelated side, the big screen adaptation of Ender’s Game just snagged a slew of new cast members including Harrison Ford and Abigail Breslin. In other casting news, Lovelace picked up four and might…

Melissa Rivers Receives Pornography Offer

Monday, December 19th, 2011

Days after it was revealed Melissa Rivers is dating Vivid Entertainment boss Steven Hirsch, the daughter of Joan Rivers received an offer from PornHub.com to appear in a sex tape with her boyfriend, the Daily Mail is reporting. The company, which would film the tape for them, said it believes the potential tape would be the first to feature “a sexy Jewish American Princess.” The deal comes after Rivers started dating Hirsch in the beginning of December 2011, after being introduced by mutual friends. She reportedly isn’t bothered by his career, in which he has brokered deals for the sales of such stars as Pamela Anderson and Kim Kardashian. Rivers…

shame movie

Shame Movie Review

Friday, December 16th, 2011

Title: Shame Director: Steve McQueen Starring: Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan, James Badge Dale, Hannah Ware, Nicole Beharie, Elizabeth Masucci Years ago, when the NC-17 rating was first created, it was serious-minded, almost grim explorations of adult sexuality like “Shame” that its champions no doubt had in mind. Of course, along came the campy “Showgirls,” which didn’t help matters. Mostly, though, the NC-17 rating was a non-starter for Hollywood studios not only because they tend to instinctively shy away from art and controversy like a cat avoids rain, but also because many newspapers — bowing to the tom-toms of local morality police — refused to carry advertising for NC-17 films, which made…
