They join already cast main star Amanda Seyfried, who’s set to portray Linda Boreman, more widely known by her stage name Linda Lovelace. ‘Lovelace’ will follow Linda as she films ‘Deep Throat,’ chronicle her abusive relationship with Chuck Traynor, played by Peter Sarsaard, and her eventual leading of the feminist anti-pornography movement. Temple, Bentley and Stone will play Linda’s best friend, second husband and mother, respectively. Fox Searchlight Films Reviewed for CompuServe by Harvey Karten Directed By: Steve McQueen Written by: Steve McQueen, Abi Morgan Opens: December 2, 2011 Apparently there’s such a thing as sex addiction. But, wait: aren’t all men sex addicts or at least talk like them? Have you ever run into a teen, especially male, who does not think or talk about sex at least ten times a day? There is a difference, as British director Steve McQueen most graphically illustrates, both clinically as a case study in psychiatric diagnosis and as a powerful drama that casts its victim as the kind of basket case we tend to associate with heroin addicts….

African Cats

DVD Review: African Cats, Monte Carlo, Wrong Turn 4 and Thankskilling

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

In a business that frequently has the tendency to disproportionately celebrate the contributions only of above-the-line talent, a big part of the allure of something like “African Cats” lies in its below-the-line artisans. An engaging, gorgeously photographed nature documentary that puts audiences on Kenyan plains in stunning fashion amidst its title subjects, this Disneynature title only stumbles in its willful insistence on imposing a family-friendly narrative on footage that is more than capable on its own, with less artificial constraints. What does that mean, straight to the point? Less, or none, of Samuel L. Jackson’s narration, dripping as it is with exaggerated tones that needlessly attempt to dictate mood. Granted, he’s given…

He has written a letter commending Emerson Elementary School in Compton, California for allowing the actress to participate in the Read Across America program. He added that he thinks fellow adult film stars Chyna and Allie Haze would be good choices to volunteer for the National Education Association’s initiative. Hirsch’s letter comes after Grey read to first graders on November 2, 2011, as part of the education program. While TMZ has even posted pictures of Grey reading to the students, a…

Alki David’s Celebrity Fight Night Review

Saturday, November 12th, 2011

The much anticipated Alki David’s Celebrity Fight Night was fantastic by all accounts who were at the Avalon last weekend. From the freakshow acts, broom pushing midgets and Ron “The Hedgehog” Jeremy sporting a too-tight bikini, plus all of the “celebs” who you love to hate at the same place and time, it was truly a blast! The night opened with an over-the-top entrance by billionaire media mogul Alki David who served as the host for the rest of the night accompanied by Frank Stalone, AJ Benza, Kevin Klein from Playboy Radio and Dylan Howard from Radar Online were the TV hosts and their comedy was super funny. The opening…

Movie News Cheat Sheet: Seyfried For Lovelace, Lopez for Carmen Sandiego, Del Toro For Star Trek 2 And More

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

The theme of this week’s Cheat Sheet? Casting. Well, for the most part. We’ve got the best of the best including J.J. Abrams’ hopes to cast Benicio del Toro as his villain in Star Trek 2 as well as a slew of potential recruits for Warner Bros’ Akira. It’s been confirmed that Jennifer Lopez is producing a Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego movie, but now the question is, will she star in it, too? Then there’s Andy Serkis who just earned a solid paycheck for signing on for Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2 as well as subsequent Apes films. Yes, this Cheat Sheet is certainly…

The Things SOME Movie Critics Say & Don’t Do: Thoughts of a Movie Journalist (2011)

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Trust the critic with the blood-shot eyes. You know…the ones who stare at movie screens for countless hours a week. Not the ones who may have partaken in Harold & Kumar related activities. Although some could do both if they have the stamina. Starting now, is when a critic/movie reviewer’s mettle is put to the test. Award season is upon us and that means the twenty-something critic associations – with an array of members (print, online, radio, TV) – are about to get an eye-full from studios via a number of parcel handlers. It’s the time of year where we (reviewers) begin our morning with answering a knock on the…

Eli Roth To Get Shocking Filmmaker Of The Decade Award

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

The new generation is more or less desensitized to the section of horror that deals with the heavy gore and carnage that we see in almost every movie of this genre nowadays. We’re far away from the days where the real literal meat of horror was carved away from the camera and now see it as close up as possible. One of the men who we can thank for pumping up the gore in front of our eyes to the max is Eli Roth, the same man who made “Cabin Fever,” the “Hostel” saga and even produced the disturbing found footage film “The Last Exorcism.” The famed horror filmmaker is…
