Alec Baldwin is still saying he’s ready to leave show business and live a simpler life. During an interview with CNN on July 6, the eldest Baldwin brother working in Hollywood said he’s following in the footsteps of fellow NBC star Steve Carrell and is leaving his hit sitcom ’30 Rock’ when his current contract expires in 2012. During the interview, Baldwin said he still enjoys acting.  But “I know that I would love to have a different life, a private life. I think doing this now for a living has become really hard. The new big-screen version of the classic pulp character “The Shadow” is no longer at Sony Pictures, with 20th Century Fox now having picked up the property. Sam Raimi (the “Spider-Man” and “Evil Dead” movies) is still attached to produce the film, which would bring the adventures of the 1930′s radio serial character to life. Fox is looking at attaching David Slade (“Hard Candy”, “30 Days of Night”, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”) to direct the film. Actor Tony Shalhoub has confirmed that the eighth season of USA’s hit drama “Monk” will be the last. The actor, who plays an obsessive-compulsive private investigator, is pulling the plug on the show so he can pursue other acting projects and work behind the camera. Shalhoub says, “It’s a great job, and I work with great people, and I really enjoy doing the character, but I think eight years is enough. Actress Kristen Johnston is stripping down for a new PETA anti-cruelty ad. Johnston is to appear nude on horseback, replicating the infamous Lady Godiva personality, as part of PETA’s campaign to stop New York City’s use of horse-drawn carriages. The ad is aimed at tourists heading for Central Park for the holidays who are tempted to take a carriage ride. Johnston says, “I was blown away by how these horses live, or actually I should say, don’t live.
