A few days ago, I speculated that the “Avengers” role a lot of Hollywood starlets were vying for would be for the Wasp. Well, enough speculation, as we now have some definite answers! The little Marvel movie that could seems to be slowly gathering more steam. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “V” actress Morena Baccarin is among several actresses shortlisted to audition for the “Avengers” movie. Other actresses include Jessica Lucas, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Cobie Smulders. The part Marvel is trying to fill is the role of a key member in Nick Fury’s Avengers team. It is speculated that the role is that of The Wasp/Janet van Dyne, but Marvel declined to comment to The Hollywood Reporter. Marvel Entertainment has released a few updates on upcoming movie adaptations of their properties, including the highly-anticipated “Avengers” film. “Iron Man 2″ is already filming and still on-schedule for release May 7th, 2010, and release, and the Kenneth Branagh-directed “Thor” still hasn’t made any casting decisions, is in pre-production, and scheduled to being filming in the beginning of 2010. “Thor” is aiming for a May 20th, 2011 release. “The First Avenger: Captain America”, directed by Joe Johnston, is scheduled to start filming in the summer of 2010 and has a tentative July 22nd, 2011 release date.
