World War Z To Be Turned Into A Trilogy?

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that the zombie film “World War Z,” starring Brad Pitt, might be the first of a trilogy. The article references a Los Angeles Times article in which Pitt talks about the film. According to the Times article: “For Pitt, the big sci-fi thriller also represents his strongest bit do to have a big film franchise of his own, which might be viewed as the missing piece of his career jigsaw puzzle. [Marc] Forster [the director of 'World War Z'] and Paramount Pictures each view WORLD WAR Z as a trilogy that would have the grounded, gun-metal realism of, say, Damon’s Jason Bourne series tethered…

Happy Feet 2

Happy Feet Two Movie Review

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

Title: Happy Feet Two Director: George Miller Starring the Voices: Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Ava Acres, Pink, Sofia Vergara, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Common, Hugo Weaving, Hank Azaria Talk about a versatile director. George Miller, who years ago was at the helm for all the gritty and violent Mad Max films, dials up some of the most tender and heartfelt moments depicted on screen this year with “Happy Feet Two.” As of today, the front-runner for Best Animated Film for 2011 has arrived. And for someone (me) who historically pans the 3D gimmick, it’s actually put to good use in this 105 minute presentation. We pick up with the dancing…

After the news went public that Brad Pitt announced he wanted to retire in three years, the actor has now said that he didn’t intend on giving a set date, according to The Hollywood Reporter. According to the site, Pitt told reporters Tuesday that his plans to retire are indefinite. “I wasn’t putting an exact deadline on my [acting] expiration date but I just see it coming and I do have an interest in the producing side,” he said while promoting his film “Moneyball” in Korea. “I’m interested in a mixed bunch about complex stories that might have difficulty getting made in the current system or getting behind the talent…

Brad Pitt Wants To Retire In Three Years

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

A few months ago, the entertainment world was abuzz with the thought of Ryan Gosling not being in the acting business anymore. Now, it would seem that Gosling will have some company in the retired actors club. According to The Huffington Post, Brad Pitt has revealed that he does not want to keep acting after three more years during his interview with Australia’s “60 Minutes.” “I am really enjoying the producing side and development of stories and putting those pieces together,” he said in the interview. “And getting stories to the plate that might have had a tougher time otherwise.” He also said a bit about his family with Angelina…

Seeing Double: This Year's Dual Oscar Contenders

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

As we enter November, the Oscars can’t be too far off. This famous awards ceremony honors movies released during the calendar year, meaning that some actors have multiple films eligible. Jude Law released a mammoth six films back in 2004, three of which earned Oscar attention, though not for his performances. Academy rules don’t permit an actor to receive two nominations in the same category, but earning one lead and one supporting mention is permissible. Often, a big year for an actor with one knockout movie role might lead to two nominations, even if the second is undeserved. For instance, was Jamie Foxx really Oscar-worthy in Collateral or was he…

The Lion King

Box Office Report: The Lion King Goes The Distance

Monday, September 26th, 2011

No one expected “The Lion King” to stay at no. 1 for two weeks in a row, but the film has done the improbable. Before we get into any analysis, let’s go over the top ten movies of the week: “The Lion King (in 3D)”–$22,130,000 “Moneyball”–$20,600,000 “Dolphin Tale”–$20,260,000 “Abduction”–$11,200,000 “Killer Elite”–$9,500,000 “Contagion”–$8,565,000 “Drive”–$5,771,000 “The Help”–$4,400,000 “Straw Dogs” $2,100,000 “I Don’t Know How She Does It”–$2,053,000 Analysis: My analysis for this week is pretty much a repeat of last week’s; people are flocking to “The Lion King” because 1)it’s a limited-time theatrical release, and people who didn’t see it in the theaters want to see it where it was meant to…

Moneyball Movie Review

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Title: Moneyball Directed By: Bennett Miller Starring: Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright, Chris Pratt, Stephen Bishop, Nick Porrazzo, Kerris Dorsey, Reed Thompson It’s pretty obvious that the sports genre has a tendency to revel in formulaic inspirational storytelling. But, when you’ve got a true story with a happy ending, isn’t that effect almost inherent? According to Moneyball, no. Is that a good thing? It depends what you’re looking for. Brad Pitt is Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A’s coming off a hot season. However, as Billy frequently says, nobody remembers you when you lose your last game of the season and in 2001,…
