Brett Rickaby in Bereavement

Interview: Bereavement's Brett Rickaby

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Brett Rickaby has made quite the name for himself in the horror genre over the past year. No, he didn’t have a lead role in The Crazies, but thanks to a particularly disturbing performance, he practically wound up becoming the face of the film. Still, that was only Rickaby scratching the surface of his potential because it’s in Stevan Mena’s Bereavement that the actor really gets the opportunity to show what he’s capable of and, boy, does he seize the opportunity. In 2005′s Malevolence, Mena introduced us to Martin Bristol, a six-year-old boy who was snatched up and emerges as a ruthless killer years later. What happens during that time…

Brek Eisner Directing Escape From NY

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Breck Eisner (“The Crazies”) is attached to direct the remake of the 1981 cult classic film “Escape From New York” for New Line/Warner Bros. The film follows former war hero and convict Snake Plissken, who’s sent into a futuristic Manhattan which has been turned into a no-man’s land/maximum security prison to bring back the American President after he’s shot down over the island and captured by the violent gangs who now lay claim to the island. The project’s script was written by Ken Nolan, David Kajganich and Allan Loeb. Neal H. Moritz’s Original Films and Canal Plus are producing. The original film starred Kurt Russell as Plissken, and was written…

Breck Eisner Gets Another Remake, Escape From New York

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Breck Eisner is my new best friend. Okay, maybe not, but I did get to chat with the director twice about The Crazies, which also happens to be one of my favorite films of the year. Anyway, according to THR, Eisner has another big remake gig in his future, Escape From New York. The rights have been in Newline’s hands for quite a while and the plan seemed to have hit a wall up until just two months ago. Apparently Allan Loeb worked some magic and altered the script enough to meet the studio’s requirements, particularly working out the details of the character originated by Kurt Russell, Snake Plissken. In…

The Crazies Breck Eisner Interview

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Getting the opportunity to talk to a director who created a film you absolutely love is a frustrating double-edged sword. You’re thrilled to have the opportunity to chat, but there isn’t nearly enough time to squeeze in every question. This is the fortunate/unfortunate case with Breck Eisner. He’s the man behind the remake of George A. Romero’s The Crazies. After a slew of poorly made and blood drenched reboots, it’s fantastic to experience something so refreshingly original that still manages to pay homage to the source material. Even if you’ve watched Romero’s 1973 original, Eisner’s film is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. When an experimental biological weapon called Trixie…

Director Breck Eisner Makes a Comeback With The Crazies

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Overture Films’ new release ‘The Crazies,’ starring Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchel, ranked third during its opening weekend of February 26-28, earning an estimated $16.52 million. It came in second behind the previous weekend’s box office champion ‘Shutter Island,’ the fourth collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio, and the weekend’s other wide release, Kevin Smith’s ‘Cop Out.’ Those films earned $22.2 million and $18.6 million, respectably. But the third place ranking for ‘The Crazies’ is actually a great feat for the film, as it was shown at 2,476 theaters nationally, ranking in a per-theater average of $6,672. This was actually the second highest per-theater average out of the top…

The Crazies Movie Review

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Title: The Crazies Directed By: Breck Eisner Starring: Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson, Danielle Panabaker If any horror movie deserves a reboot, it’s George A. Romero’s The Crazies. The premise is still intriguing, but the execution is dated leaving room for improvement. Nowadays, this type of improvement comes in the form of ultra bloody horror reboots that desperately try to one up each other by having the most brutal kill scenes. Rather than rely on sheer gore, The Crazies mixes charming characters, suspense and disturbing behavior to provide a well-crafted and downright horrifying experience. Everything seems normal in the quaint town of Ogden Marsh. Sheriff David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant)…

The Crazies Danielle Panabaker Interview

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Danielle Panabaker oddly enjoys being terrorized for a living. Just last year we watched as Jason Voorhees tormented her and a group of unsuspecting teens in Friday the 13th and now she’ll have to outrun a terrible virus with the power to turn you into a psychopathic killer in The Crazies. The film is a remake of the 1973 George A. Romero original during which a top-secret government virus called Trixie accidently infects the water supply of Evans City, Pennsylvania. Breck Eisner’s reboot moves the action to a town called Ogden Marsh, where average citizens like Becca Darling (Panabaker) are subject to the horror of not knowing who maintains their…
