Think about how many new movies hit the big screen a weekend. Must be a lot of films in the works at once, right? Most certainly and this edition of the Movie News Cheat Sheet is a testament to that. We’ve got a handful of casting updates including the possibility of Joseph Gordon-Levitt joining Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained as well as news that Steven Soderbergh might have finally found his Man from U.N.C.L.E., Bradley Cooper. Word also arrived that MGM might pick up Eminem’s Southpaw after the production was dropped by DreamWorks while Universal moves forward with its Battlestar Galactica feature by hiring a writer. But, of course, we’ve also…

The crushing ambivalence of young adulthood is often lost under the thick glaze of hormonal revelry typically applied to teenage and twentysomething coming-of-age tales. But “Take Me Home Tonight” — an in many respects pedestrian comedy that otherwise coasts along on its energy and the winning appeal of its cast — gets this crucial detail of feeling right, which helps mitigate direction that often lacks a sense of snappishness, and a second and third act that don’t emotionally resonate as much as they could or should. The film, co-written by director Michael Dowse, from a story co-conceived by star Topher Grace, unfolds in 1988 and centers on a recent MIT…

“X-Men: First Class” producer Bryan Singer has stated that the next film in the “X-Men” franchise could deal with other 1960s world events like the Vietnam War or the Civil Rights movement. According to CinemaBlend via the Los Angeles Times, Singer would love to see other elements of the 1960s tackled without turning the films into bland recounts of about world events. “I don’t know if every movie has to be a history lesson. But there’s a lot of history to cover,” he said. “If we sequelized this, it could inhabit a whole world of the 20th century. When [First Class] happened, Kennedy had not been assassinated and the Vietnam…

Some think that “Superman Returns” did work, but for those who didn’t particularly like the Bryan Singer version of the story about the Man of Steel, he’s here to tell you why you didn’t. The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision posted snippets of an interview Comic Book Movie’s VoicesofKrypton did with Bryan Singer about the issues of the film. When asked about how he internalized the overall response people had to the film, Singer said, “It’s hard for me to assess it. My gut response is, ‘I didn’t do THAT bad.’” But he goes on to explain some possible causes for the monetary failure. “I think that ‘Superman Returns’ was a…

If negotiations work out right, Ewan McGregor may soon be charging into battle against a bunch of giants. The famed actor is in the middle of talks to possibly be in Bryan Singer’s “Jack the Giant Killer,” set up under New Line Cinema and Legendary Pictures. Director Bryan Singer has announced that he’s planning on shooting his next movie, the 3D ‘Jack The Giant Killer,’ mainly using natural light, Cinemablend.com is reporting. While directors typically use bright light while filming 3D movies so the final result doesn’t appear dark, Singer instead plans on using the new EPIC Red camera. Singer told the Red User forums that he plans on using mostly electrical lighting because “the movie is set in a time before electricity.” He added that “EPIC’s extraordinary exposure latitude will allow (him) to more effectively explore the use of natural light.” However, the director didn’t confirm if he will be following in Stanley Kubrick’s footsteps…

Aaron Johnson, who rose to fame in this spring’s hit action movie ‘Kick-Ass,’ is the forerunner to be cast as the title role in the upcoming ‘Jack the Giant Killer’. The news comes after Andrew Garfield, a relative unknown who recently gained recognition in the critical and box-office hit ‘The Social Network,’ had to turn down the part to appear in the ‘Spider Man’ reboot. Bryan Singer, who is directing ‘Jack the Giant Killer,’ decided to look at Johnson after he also portrayed a young John Lennon in the recent ‘Nowhere Boy.’ However, New Line, the studio behind the movie, is still looking at other young actors. But an official…

Bryan Singer, who directed the box-office hit ‘X-Men’ and its sequel ‘X2,’ has reconciled his differences with 20th Century Fox, the studio behind the big screen adaptations of the classic comic book. The director will be back on board to produce ‘X-Men: First Class,’ after the studio saw his treatment for the film. Their relationship previously ended when Fox didn’t sign Singer fast enough to direct the third installment in the series, ‘X-Men: The Last Stand.’ The director later teamed up with Warner Bros. to helm its classic comic book adaptation, ‘Superman Returns,’ which was released the same year as ‘The Last Stand.’ Brett Ratner, who directed ‘Red Dragon,’ was…
