In Your Opinion: Bad Teacher

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Last week, we touched a little bit on “Bad Teacher” in the “FilmFan” recap, but for those who don’t know about the film, “Bad Teacher” follows a, well…bad teacher Elizabeth (Cameron Diaz) who is looking for her Mr. Right after being stood up. She tries to snag a rich dweeb substitute Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake), but gym teacher Russell Gettis (Jason Segel) has eyes for her. The film has a mediocre rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and the main consensus from critics is that “Bad Teacher” isn’t as awesome as “Bad Santa”; it goes for the jugular, but it fails to hit. Instead, it lingers around in middle-of-the-road territory. Also part…

Box Office Report: Cars 2 Spanks Bad Teacher

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

The box office results for the weekend of June 24th – 26th has Pixar parking in its usual reserved spot once again. But after reading the reviews, it could be towed away very soon. Meanwhile, the continuous pattern of being Bad – a.k.a. R-rated comedy – earns more dirty money. Here are the studio estimates: 1. Cars 2 ($68 million) 2. Bad Teacher ($31 million) 3. Green Lantern ($18.3 million) 4. Super 8 ($12.1 million) 5. Mr. Popper’s Penguins ($10.3 million) 6. X-Men: First Class ($6.6 million) 7. The Hangover Part II ($5.8 million) 8. Bridesmaids ($5.3 million) 9. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($4.7 million) 10. Midnight…

Box Office Predictions: Cars 2 To Steer Clear Of Competition With Ease

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

And we’re back to a weekend sans superhero movies. We’ve got two new wide releases making their debut both of which will likely struggle to fight off unhappy critics and powerful box office veterans. Cars 2 may be the one with the weaker reviews, but a whopping 4,115-theater count and the fact that it’s a sequel, will certainly give it the edge over Bad Teacher. Back in 2006, Cars opened to the tune of $60.1 million. Can its predecessor achieve the same? It looks like it. In 2008, the first Kung Fu Panda snagged a total of $60.2 million during week one, but Kung Fu Panda 2 started its run…

Bad Teacher Movie Review

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Title: Bad Teacher Directed By: Jake Kasdan Starring: Cameron Diaz, Lucy Punch, Jason Segel, Justin Timberlake, Phyllis Smith, John Michael Higgins, Matthew J. Evans, Kaitlyn Dever, Kathryn Newton, Noah Munck Think you had some bad teachers in school? Well, Cameron Diaz’s character in Bad Teacher is above and beyond. This is a movie though, so above and beyond can work, right? Of course, but it can also backfire big time and, oddly enough, Bad Teacher manages to do both with its incredibly preposterous titular character. (Keep those minds out of the gutter, please.) Elizabeth Halsey (Diaz) is on the verge of living the high life. She’s just about to marry…

Bad Teacher Movie Review

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Title: Bad Teacher Directed By: Jake Kasdan Written By: Lee Eisenberg, Gene Stupnitsky Cast: Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, Jason Segel, Lucy Punch, John Michael Higgins, Molly Shannon Screened at: E-Walk, NYC, 6/21/11 Opens: June 24, 2011 During my earliest days of teaching high school in New York, our union approved a strike vote. We won the strike, but the turnout was poor in elementary school (supposedly populated by frightened people or women who were simply making extra money for the family and were content), medium effective in high school, and terrific in junior highs. I was told that the junior highs-because of the difficulties of teaching kids that age-would have…

Cameron Diaz Sports Paige Novick Cuff During Bad Teacher Appearance

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Cameron Diaz sported a gold and gunmetal Paige Novick cuff on the roof of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Moscow on June 15, 2011 during the photocall for her upcoming comedy ‘Bad Teacher.’ The actress matched the cuff with an ivory Chanel Pre-Fall 2011 jacket, white t-shirt, stretch-denim leggings and coral Casadei blade heels. Diaz added the cuff to her outfit, as she’s a fan of Novick’s glamour and sophistication. The jewelry and accessory company is also known for it’s edgy and trendy style and contrasting elements. Other celebrities who often wear the designer’s costume and fine jewelry include Blake Lively, Jessica Alba, Emma Stone and Beyonce. Written by: Karen Benardello…

Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz Make European Appearances in Casadei Blade Heels

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Jennifer Lopez (Ice Age: Continental Drift) and Cameron Diaz (Bad Teacher) both made public appearances in Casadei blade heels on June 14 in Europe. Lopez was in Paris to do an interview with NRJ Radio, and when she stepped out on the town later that day, she matched the pearl-colored shoes with a white dress. Diaz wore the Casedei heels in black as she embarked on another day of her international press tour for her upcoming comedy ‘Bad Teacher’ in London. She matched the shoes, which are known for their attention to detail, luxury and glamour, with white capris and a black three-quarter sleeve shirt. Lopez and Diaz are just…
