John Lasseter Receives Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Disney/Pixar’s John Lasseter received a coveted star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Tuesday, which coincided with the release of “Cars 2″ on DVD and Blu-ray. Present at the event were Owen Wilson, Emily Mortimer, Brad Paisley, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin, John Ratzenberger, Patton Oswalt, Randy Newman and Don Rickles, all of whom are associated with Pixar either by contributing their voices (Wilson, Mortimer, Hunt, Marin, Ratzenberger, Oswalt and Rickles) or their musical talents (Paisley, Newman). Lasseter is a two-time Oscar-winning director and creatively oversees all Disney and Pixar films and associated projects. Lasseter’s directorial debut was in 1995 with Pixar’s first feature film, “Toy Story.” He also directed “A…

Revenge of the Electric Car

Revenge of the Electric Car Movie Review

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Title: Revenge of the Electric Car Director: Chris Paine Documentary sequels are few and far between, but maybe they should be more frequent, because as events in society change, so too do the currency and context of social-statement works like “The Corporation,” ”Inside Job” and “Who Killed the Electric Car?” The latter, from 2006, told in compelling fashion the story of the crib-murder of a vehicle that would have done wonders for the environment, massively curbed the United States’ dependence on foreign oil, and additionally put the nation on a clearly defined, decades-long path toward export dominance in both automobiles and the emerging market of cell battery technology. One massive worldwide economic disaster and the near-total collapse…

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Box Office Predictions: Transformers 3 To Go 2 For 2

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

After a monstrous record-breaking July 4th weekend courtesy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, we get one a bit on the tamer side for the summer season. We’ve got two new wide releases making their debuts, but neither will be able to surpass Optimus Prime and the gang. Assuming everyone’s gotten Bad Teacher out of their systems, there should be more than enough room for Horrible Bosses to swoop in and snag just as much money, about $30 million. Usually, I’d expect a four-quadrant family film to trump an R-rated comedy, but after Mr. Popper’s Penguins failed to impress, I don’t see how Zookeeper could wrap the weekend with more…

Cars 2

Box Office Predictions: Cars 2 To Steer Clear Of Competition With Ease

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

And we’re back to a weekend sans superhero movies. We’ve got two new wide releases making their debut both of which will likely struggle to fight off unhappy critics and powerful box office veterans. Cars 2 may be the one with the weaker reviews, but a whopping 4,115-theater count and the fact that it’s a sequel, will certainly give it the edge over Bad Teacher. Back in 2006, Cars opened to the tune of $60.1 million. Can its predecessor achieve the same? It looks like it. In 2008, the first Kung Fu Panda snagged a total of $60.2 million during week one, but Kung Fu Panda 2 started its run…

Cars-2

Cars 2 Movie Review

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Title: Cars 2 Director: John Lasseter & Brad Lewis Starring the Voices of: Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Michael Caine, Emily Mortimer, Eddie Izzard, John Turturro, Joe Mantegna, Thomas Kretschmann The setting: -It’s late February 2012, wait, scratch that…it’s January 2012, and the Oscar nominees are being rattled off; some A-list celebrity is about to read the candidates for Best Animated Film, and wouldn’t you know it, a Pixar film is noticeably missing… That’s because “Cars 2″ sputtered at just about every turn. If you’re looking for what makes Pixar the perennial dominating product in this genre, this 113 minute flick is a very average sample size. And don’t…
