Fright Night

DVD Review: Fright Night, Catch .44, Carjacker and Maniac Cop

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

A pumped-up remake of the same-named 1984 vampire horror-comedy, “Fright Night” represents a well oiled machine of goosed senses that unfortunately has no clearly defined motivating purposes, even within genre confines of its own story. Fun and engaging performances carry the movie a great distance, but it eventually bogs down courtesy of loosely defined stakes (no pun intended) and poorly incentivized action. The story centers on Las Vegas high school senior Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin), who lives with his single mom real estate agent, Jane (Toni Collette), and has successfully pivoted away from his geeky past enough to bag a popular girlfriend, Amy (Imogen Poots). Things get turned upside down…

Fright Night Movie Review 2

Friday, August 19th, 2011

We’ve been force-fed quite a few remakes within the last five years. The taste isn’t too satisfying most of the time but we as an audience have learned to tolerate it at the very least. One such remake we’re talking about here is “Fright Night,” based off the original 1985 horror-comedy by Tom Holland. Fans of the original cried out online in protest when the remake began production but since have been silenced by footage from the Craig Gillespie-directed film. I admit, I am one of those fans who started to shut her trap once she got a better look at the footage. Perhaps this version of “Fright Night” will…

Fright Night Movie Review

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

Title: Fright Night Directed By: Craig Gillespie Starring: Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Imogen Poots, David Tennant, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Toni Collette As we’re drowning in a flood of big screen remakes, we ask ourselves time and time again; is it worth it? In Fright Night‘s case, yes. As we’re drowning in a flood of 3D features, we ask ourselves time and time again; is it worth it? In Fright Night‘s case, no, but, luckily for director Craig Gillespie, he’s working with some solid source material and an absolutely stellar cast, both with the power to stake that extra dimension right in the heart. If only it’d burn up and evaporate for…

SDCC 2011: All Good Things Must Come To An End ... With A Giveaway!

Monday, July 25th, 2011

I can’t believe it, but this is officially it; my coverage of San Diego Comic Con 2011 has come to a close. For five incredibly long days, the experience went by in a flash. The action was non-stop from the moment I touched down in San Diego and while it was extremely exhausting and probably one of the most trying working experiences I’ve ever gone through, it was beyond worth it. So, what’d you think? Did you like my coverage choices? Were the formats I chose to report in effective? Do let me know because I’m thrilled to say, it looks as though I’ll be returning to Comic Con next…

SDCC 2011: Friday Wrap Up And Photos

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

That’s that for Friday at San Diego Comic Con and I’m back at home base, well, the hotel. Today was a particularly busy one as I got a taste of exactly how long those lines for Hall H and Ballroom 20 can get. I thought I was jumping the gun by showing up three hours early for the 11:15am panel for The Walking Dead, but apparently about 10,000 people had the exact same idea, as the line stretched from the convention hall all the way down to the bay. Lucky for me, I was able to work some press related magic and get a seat, but for those other 10,000…
