Morgan Freeman Joins Red

Variety is reporting that Morgan Freeman is in talks to star in “Red”, the comic adaptation of the Vertigo/DC title from Summit Entertainment that will also star Bruce Willis. Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber are writing the script, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing. Gregory Noveck from DC will serve as executive producer. “Red” was written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hamner, about a former black-ops CIA killer in retirement who finds that he has been marked for death and goes “red”, meaning on the hunt, to defend himself. The three-book series was published in 2003 and 2004 from Wildstorm, an imprint of DC comics.  [ Read More ]

Director Tapped For Hack Slash Film

Fredrik Bond has been tapped to direct the long-awaited big-screen adaptation of the hit Devil’s Due Publishing comic “Hack/Slash” for Rogue Pictures. Bond, who is also attached to direct a remake of the hit Korean horror movie “The Host” at Universal and the upcoming “The Hunger” for Warner Bros, has previously worked in TV commercials and music videos. Justin Marks wrote the scipt. Holt McCallany Joins The Losers

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Holt McCallany (“Fight Club”, the upcoming FX series “Lights Out”), has been cast in the adaptation of the DC/Vertigo Comics title “The Losers” as Wade, the special forces soldier who was once part of the group. “The Losers”, created by Andy Diggle and Jock in 2003, is about a cover-ops team for the CIA betrayed by their handler, a mysterious figure in the intelligence community known as Max, while on a mission. Release Date Set For The Losers

Warner Bros. has set a release date of April 16th, 2010 , for the big-screen debut of “The Losers”, an adaptation of the Vertigo/DC comic book, directed by Sylvain White. Created by Andy Diggle and Jock in 2003, the series follows a CIA black-ops team who are betrayed and left for dead on a mission gone horribly wrong. Too Cool To Be Forgotten Picked Up For Adaptation

“Synecdoche, New York” producer Anthony Bregman has picked up the option to adapt Alex Robinson’s “Too Cool To Be Forgotten” from Top Shelf Productions. No casting or release date information has been released yet. “Too Cool To Be Forgotten” is the story of a 40-year-old man who undergoes hypnosis therapy to help him stop smoking. However, instead he wakes up in the body of his 15-year-old self and must live through his awkward teenage years, but still possessing the knowledge of his later life and unsure if he should change anything that would affect the life he had and will get to again, in 25 years. Danny McBride Bringing Hench To Life

Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the new AIT/PlanetLar graphic novel “Hench” and are planning to develop it into a vehicle for Danny McBride, who is set to write the script alongside Shawn Harwell. Neal Moritz of Original Films, alongside Kickstart Productions’ Jason Netter and McBride. Ken Levin and Ori Marmur will executive produce “Hench”. McBride will play the comic’s titular character, a football player who suffers a career-ending injury and needing a job, ends up signing on as a henchman for a successful evil supervillain. Writers Attached To Adaptation Of Nick Rachet

Douglas Cook and David Weisberg have been attached to write a big-screen adaptation of “Nick Ratchet,” a Stan Lee/POW Entertainment project set up at Disney. The lighthearted mystery thriller follows a shy and ineffectual police officer and his rough and tough online avatar/persona named Nick Rachet, and a Jekyll & Hyde-type struggle between the two when Nick Ratchet emerges from inside his video game to take over the life of his creator. Wake The Dead Film Adaptation Stalled

MTV Splashpage is reporting that the big-screen adaptation of “Wake The Dead”, the nu-Frankenstein comic from “30 Days Of Night” creator Steve Niles has been officially put on the back burner despite hopes it could have been available for the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con. Splashpage and Niles both confirm that the project which has Jay Russell attached to direct, which was going to go into production this year, is on hold to due WETA Workshops, who was going to be handling the special effects, being unable to do so due to Guilermo Del Toro’s production of “The Hobbit” also starting soon and WETA being unable to handle other projects. Bruce Willis To Star In Red

Bruce Willis has been attached to star in the big-screen adaptation of the Homage/Wildstorm graphic novel “Red”, from acclaimed writer Warren Ellis and artist Cully Hammer. “Red”, published between 2003 and 2004, is about a former CIA wetworks operative targeted for elimination by his superiors when a new CIA director learns of his existence, and he decides to strike back at those he once worked for. The Forgotten Coming To The Big Screen

John Wells and Don Murphy are producing a big-screen adaptation of the comic book “The Forgotten.” They will be producing it through their respective companies jointly, John Wells Prods. and Angryfilms. “The Forgotten” was co-created by Evan Young and Jareth Grealish, and was first independently published in 2002. Blake Masters, creator of the Showtime series “Brotherhood”, is adapting the Boom! Studios graphic novel “2 Guns” from Steven Grant with art by Mat Santolouco. Marc Platt is producing the crime-themed thriller via Marc Platt Productions, along with Andrew Cosby and Ross Richie of Boom! Studios. “2 Guns,” follows a DEA agent and an undercover naval intelligence officer who end up unwittingly investigating each other and who steal mob money for the good guys. Battling Boy Getting The Big-Screen Treatment

Alex Tse (“Watchmen”) will be writing the adaptation of the comic book title “Battling Boy” for Paramount and Plan B, Brad Pitt’s production company. The film will be based on the upcoming graphic novel written and illustrated by Paul Pope (“Batman: Year 100″, “Dark Horse Presents” series), and follows the son of a god who comes down from the top of a mountain at his father’s behest, to battle a plague of beasts that have overrun the giant floating city of Monstropolis.
