Final Destination 5

Box Office Predictions: Final Destination 5 Won't Kill The Competition, But It Could Edge Out Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

We’ve got a lot of new items hitting theaters this weekend. Of the four, Final Destination 5 will undoubtedly come out on top. Rocking more positive reviews than one would expect and a devoted fan base, the fifth installment looks to pull in at least as much as the fourth film, but likely a little more, perhaps about $30 million. Comedies haven’t faired too well recently, but there’s a chance the action element will give 30 Minutes or Less a bit of a boost. Odds are it won’t make nearly as much as Sony’s summer 2010 action/comedy release, The Other Guys, but it could be on par with Pineapple Express…

Movie News Cheat Sheet: The Dark Knight Rises Battle Of The Official Vs. Unofficial Photos And Videos Rages On

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

Sure, it’s fun getting early peeks at upcoming productions, but it’s a different story if those first looks are coming from anywhere else, but the studio in charge. Hearing that John Travolta, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme may be in The Expendables 2 from the Nu Boyana Studios CEO? Good. Seeing official images of Anne Hathaway, Henry Cavill and Rihanna in full costume for The Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel and Battleship respectively? Awesome. A parody video by Miles Fisher starring the entire cast of Final Destination 5? Bloody fantastic! Amateur photos and video of folks hanging around the set of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises? Now…

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Box Office Predictions: Apes Take Over The World And The Box Office

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

After a surprisingly close race last weekend, this weekend’s big winner should have more than enough breathing room. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is due out in 3,500 theaters as compared to The Change-Up‘s 2,913. Plus, we’re talking a superhero-sized production with strong reviews up against a more modest comedy with dismal ones; there really is no competition. However, Rise of the Planet of the Apes still seems comparable to something like Predators or District 9. Predators only opened in 2,669 theaters, but should Rise of the Planet of the Apes post a similar per theater average, it should wrap up its opening weekend with about $33 million….
