Rise of the Apes Moved to Thanksgiving Release Date

The prequel to the Planet of the Apes series, Rise of the Apes, has been moved to a November 23 release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter and CinemaBlend. The film was originally set to hit theaters June 24, but, according to CinemaBlend, the move to a date like Thanksgiving doesn’t indicate any lack of faith in the film and its ability to clean up at the box office, since both dates are prime real estate for film releases. 20th Century Fox, the company behind the film, will place adventure-comedy The Sitter in the June spot instead. Evan Rachel Wood’s more wholesome side is nice, but with a guy like Marilyn Manson in her life, she just can’t be the girl next door all the time. As reported by Variety, the couple signed on to star in Adam Bhala Lough’s Splatter Sisters. The flick will be produced by Edward R. Pressman and David Gordon Green. According to the article, Splatter Sisters is being described as a “sexploitation-serial-killer-slasher-road-movie circa 1989.” The plan is to turn the film into a franchise, which Lough hopes could create a new subgenre called “Skinemax Cinema” inspired by the direct-to-cable films he watched as a kid. In a Variety article about “I Am Love”, the new Tilda Swinton, film director Luca Guadagnino mentions that First Sun, his production company, is actually moving forward on a remake of the classic 1977 horror film “Suspriria” by director Dario Argento. Shooting is scheduled to start in 2010, with David Gordon Green directing. Though not confirmed, Natalie Portman is rumored to play the lead role in the film, which is about a new student to a ballet school in Europe. Natalie Portman is joining the cast of the Universal Pictures comedy “Your Highness”, which will also star Danny McBride and James Franco and is being directed by David Gordon Green (“Pineapple Express”). Scott Stuber produces through his U-based banner. Jon Mone and Andy Davis are executive producers of the project. McBride, who wrote the script with Ben Best, plays a lazy and arrogant prince who alongside his brother, played by Franco, must complete a quest to save his kingdom as well as his brother’s fiancee.
