With divorce proceedings still being handled between the late Dennis Hopper’s estate and his estranged wife Victoria Duffy, their 7-year-old daughter, Galen Grier Hopper, had to miss her father’s funeral, the UK’s Daily Beast is reporting.  The actor’s multimillion-dollar estate is still being fought over, and may not be settled for several years, leaving Galen without the chance to say goodbye to her father. Duffy’s friends said that Galen was dis-invited to the funeral.  Meanwhile, Hopper’s friends said that Duffy is using Galen as a pawn, and wouldn’t let her go.  Hopper’s attorney, Joe Mannis, contacted Duffy’s lawyers with a letter from the ‘Easy Rider’ star the day before the funeral.  [ Read More ]

Jack Nicholson and Val Kilmer were just some of the many friends and family members who memorialized Dennis Hopper at a mass in Ranchos De Taos, New Mexico, on June 2, the Associated Press (AP) is reporting. The mass was held in a chapel, where the two-time Academy Award-nominated actor’s wood coffin was brought. During the ceremony, Hopper’s son, Henry Lee, read the collection of poems ‘Leaves of Grass’ by Walt Whitman. Other relatives also spoke during the mass, after which the actor’s coffin was taken to a private burial in a funeral procession that included about a half a dozen motorcycles. Academy Award-nominated actor Dennis Hopper died on May 29 after battling prostate cancer, Reuters is reporting.  The 74-year-old actor who is remembered most for his role in ‘Easy Rider,’ was surrounded by his family and friends in his Venice, California home. While Hopper is known for co-writing and starring in the classic  ‘Easy Rider,’ which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the 1970 Oscars, more recently he has remembered for his personal life.  For most of the year, he was in the middle of a bitter divorce from his fifth wife of 14 years, Victoria Duffy-Hopper. On Saturday, May 29th, 2010 iconic actor Dennis Hopper passed away in his Venice Beach home, he was age 74. According to The Associated Press, he was surrounded by family and friends. Perhaps best known for the hit classics “Apocalypse Now”, “Easy Rider”, “Blue Velvet” and “Rebel Without A Cause”. Hopper’s latest work includes a starring role in “An American Carol”, “Hell Ride” and the hit Starz television series “Crash”. Cancer-stricken actor Dennis Hopper has finally received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 27, Reuters is reporting. Even though the 73-year-old star of ‘Easy Rider’ has advanced prostate cancer and reportedly weighing around 100 pounds since getting sick, he still attended the unveiling with a smile. The frail Hopper appeared at the unveiling even though it’s also being reported that he’s too weak to continue chemotherapy. He did wear a bandage on his head and on his right hand though, which he attributed to a fall, which he said occurred when a paparazzi called out his name as he walked outside. Barry Pepper (“Saving Private Ryan”, “The Green Mile”) has signed on to join the cast of the Coen Brothers’ remake of “True Grit” as “Lucky” Ned Pepper. The character was played Robert Duvall in the 1969 original. Pepper is joinging Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin and Hailee Steinfeld. Ethan and Joel Coen are directing from their own adapted script, and they’re also producing alongside Scott Rudin. Steven Spielberg is attached as executive producer. The Coen Brothers’ remake of the classic “True Grit” for Paramount Pictures will be hitting theaters on Christmas Day of 2010. The remake of the 1969 western stars Jeff Bridges as U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn, the character initially played by John Wayne. Famed movie and television actor Dennis Hopper has filed for divorce in Los Angeles from his fifth wife, Victoria.  Court records show he cited irreconcilable differences, and is seeking both joint legal and physical custody of their 6-year-old daughter Galen.  Hopper does plan to provide Victoria with spousal support, in part due to the length of the relationship.  The couple has been together for 18 years, and married five years into the relationship.  This is Hopper’s longest marriage of the five, which includes an 8-day union to Michelle Phillips.  The announcement came as a surprise, as the Huffington Post has reported that Hopper is mentally confused, after taking enormous amounts  [ Read More ]

Variety is reporting that Jeff Bridges is in discussions with Paramount to star in a remake of “True Grit” that Joel and Ethan Coen are heading. Bridges would play the role that John Wayne did in the 1969 original film, which follows a 14-year-old girl who tags along with an aging U.S. marshal, Rooster Cogburn, to track down the outlaw that killed her father. Bridges last worked with the Coens in the cult hit “The Big Lebowski” in 1998. The picture reunites the Coens with their “No Country for Old Men” producing partner Scott Rudin.
