Of the bunch, the latter two are the most likely to come to fruition while Farmville could be a ways away. Then again, even if a Farmville movie does happen, how much of the narrative could really be based on the game? Also in the development stage is the big screen version of the TV show Friday Night Lights. While…

How about a hefty dose of casting news to prep for the work/school week? This week’s Cheat Sheet is absolutely packed to the brim with casting updates and every single one of them is rather exciting! Even if you’re a hardcore Saw fan, there’s still a good chance you’ve got no clue who Darren Lynn Bousman is. Well, he was the man behind the lens of the series’ second, third and fourth installments and now he’s working on another horror film that not only boasts an interesting premise, but now a stellar cast, too. Alex Proyas, on the other hand, has been in the spotlight time and time again, which…

Box Office Report: The Lion King Outshines Its Competition

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Hi, ShockYa readers! Monique Jones here–I’m taking over the “Box Office Report” for this week and next week for Joe Belcastro, who is on a well-deserved vacation. Now, with the housekeeping out of the way, let’s get into some box office reporting, shall we? Before we get into the studio estimates, I just want to say that there’s been a small trend in studio estimates as of late. Three movies in particular, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Help” and this week’s number one, “The Lion King,” broke initial studio predictions. There are bigger ramifications as to why this is important, but I’ll get to that in the…

D23 Expo: Costumes Galore

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

There are plenty of costumes that are up on display in the floor area of Disney’s D23 Expo, but the most surprising part is the fans who’ve dressed up as their favorite Disney characters. After attending Comic-Con for x number of years, I’m used to the vast array of costumes that range from comics to video games that pop up on the floor at the famous convention. However, I didn’t know there were so many fans eager to show off their true Disney colors by running around as Ariel, Ursula, Flynn Rider and other characters from their wheelhouse. Let’s take a look at some of these costumes, shall we? Ariel’s…

D23 Expo: Starting Up On The Floor

Friday, August 19th, 2011

Disney more or less is something that’s almost practically in your blood if you grow up around Disneyland here in Southern California. Being a native to the SoCal area, we tend to experience the whole Disney experience at an early age. With the added bonus of growing up during Disney Animation’s golden age, I’ve been hooked to all things having to do with the House of Mouse for years on end. So naturally it perks my interest to cover something completely Disney-fied like the D23 Expo. I’ve been to the annual San Diego Comic-Con for a few years, so it’s been interesting to compare and contrast the massive convention from…

Movie News Cheat Sheet: Shame On Howard Stern, Mike Myers And 3D

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

While the Cheat Sheet is normally packed with the usual suspects – The Hunger Games, The Dark Knight Rises and Twilight, just to name a few – this time around, we’ve got some rather unique stories to share. Unfortunately for Howard Stern, he’s part of the bunch as a hole in his team led to the leaking of Super 8. Another punch to the gut also goes out to 3D technology, as a recent study proves the extra dimension does nothing to enhance a story, rather only offers the potential for discomfort. On the brighter side, Kenny Ortega snagged a dream of a gig, as he’s been recruited to direct…
