John Dies At The End

Sundance 2012 Movie Review: John Dies At The End

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Title: John Dies At The End Director: Don Coscarelli Cast: Chase Williamson, Rob Mayes, Paul Giamatti, Clancy Brown, Glynn Turman, Doug Jones, Fabianne Therese and Fred Chu There’s a tradition of horror movies screening at the Sundance Film Festival that will shock, delight but always entertain the usual highbrow moviegoer. What I love about this festival is simply capturing the indie spirit of filmmaking no matter what the genre. So every year there are a few oddball horror films that you wouldn’t believe unless you saw. I can honestly say, I have never seen a film quite like “John Dies At The End.” The new film from director Don Coscarelli,…

Interview: Red Carpet At The Saturn Awards (Part 1)

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

When it comes to awards shows many people recognize the higher profile ones like The Oscars, the SAG Awards or even the Independent Spirit Awards. One of the other great awards shows, which is wonderfully low key as well, happens to be the Saturn Awards. This award show pays respect to the greatest science fiction, horror and fantasy films and television shows from the previous year. On behalf of ShockYa.com, I got the great opportunity to cover the red carpet of the 37th Annual Saturn Awards. The first half of my interviews, which you can watch below, include talking to “Watson” actor French Stewart, “Being Human” star Sam Witwer, Doug…

Guillermo Del Toro and Doug Jones

Doug Jones May Be Working With Guillermo Del Toro Soon

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Within the span of five years Doug Jones has popped up in three of Guillermo del Toro’s movies (“Hellboy,” “Hellboy II,” “Pan’s Labyrinth”). These two clearly have a great working relationship if Mr. Jones keeps appearing in a movie of del Toro’s here and there. Perhaps he’s due for another one? I arrived at the red carpet for the 37th Annual Saturn Awards, a show that honors every television show and film having to do with science fiction, horror and fantasy. Luckily I got the chance to talk to famed actor and Saturn Award show presenter Doug Jones, as you will see from the video below, but there was a…

Watch Guillermo Del Toro Howl at the Moon

Saturday, January 1st, 2011

Badass Digest got their hands on this killer 1991 Wolf Man themed Alka Seltzer commercial directed by and starring Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth). Director Guilermo Del Toro is currently working on re-imagining Mary Shelly’s classic “Frankenstein” starring genre favorite Doug Jones. Synopsis: Still regarded as the definitive film version of Mary Shelley’s classic tale of tragedy and horror, Frankenstein made unknown character actor Boris Karloff a star and created a new icon of terror. Along with the highly successful Dracula, released earlier the same year, it launched Universal Studio’s golden age of 1930s horror movies. The film’s greatness stems less from its script than from the stark but…

My Name is Jerry Movie Review

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

Title: My Name Is Jerry Directed by: Morgan Mead Starring: Doug Jones, Allison Scagliotti and Catherine Hicks Sometimes all it takes is stopping at a wrong party to realize that your entire life is full of mistakes. The new dramatic comedy ‘My Name is Jerry’ builds on that concept, and aims to show viewers that anyone can turn their life around by having a few positive chance encounters. The 96-minute film, which stars Doug Jones in the title role, proves in a non-preaching way that just because people reach a certain age, it doesn’t mean that their lives have to stop all together. The film, which is based on an…
