Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Did the Giants win yet? Screenwriter Diablo Cody talks with Collider about the upcoming horror remake “The Evil Dead” from first-time feature director Fede Alvarez co-written by Diablo Cody (Juno). The original 1981 cult classic film was written and director by Sam Raimi and starred Bruce Campbell. Synopsis: Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival. Sam Raimi and his original producing partners Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell (who also starred in the franchise) will remake their cult hit “The Evil Dead.” The film will be made through the team’s long standing Ghost House Pictures partnership. The film is set to be written and directed by Fede Alvarez, who directed the short film “Panic Attack.” In fact, Tapert and Raimi were so impressed with Alvarez that the two set up a blind deal with Alvarez, which resulted in him writing and directing the film. The principles behind the classic horror film “Evil Dead” have, 28 years later, decided to re-release the film in theaters, 28 years later. According to Paste.com, Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert are planning to re-release the film in theaters next year. The creators and Grindhouse Pictures will offer midnight showings in select Landmark theaters in the U.S., and Mayfair Cinema in Canada. More venues will be announced at the start of 2010. It seems as if the Evil Dead duo, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are having a bit of disagreement as to the future of a fourth installment of the series. Bruce Campbell recently sat down with A/V Club and said, “I think there should be an end to everything. I mean, did anyone really want Indiana Jones 4? The answer is no. I’ve taken a poll in about seven theaters now. Of 300 people, three hands go up. Producer Don Carmody wants to bring his musical adapation of Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead to the big screen in 3D. The musical’s original director, Christopher Bond, and choreographer, Hinton Battle, are set to co-direct the film. Carmody wants Raimi in on the musical film version of The Evil Dead, but no word as to whether or not he’s signed on permanently.
