Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Christoph Waltz (Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds”) has been cast as the villain in “The Green Hornet” from Columbia Pictures, filling in the role that Nicholas Cage was rumored to play but walked away from.
Waltz, who plays a Nazi antagonist in “Basterds”, has been cast as Chudnofsky against Seth Rogen’s Green Hornet in the Sony film, which also stars Cameron Diaz and Jay Chou.
The Michel Gondry-directed adaptation, which is based on the character that premiered in the 1930’s and went on to star in a radio serial, comic strips, and a live-action TV show, is scheduled for a December 17th, 2010 release.

Despite rumors, Heat Vision is reporting that Nicolas Cage won’t be starring as a villain in “The Green Hornet” from Columbia Pictures and director Michel Gondry , having walked away from the production that’s already started filming in Los Angeles after negotiations fell through. Hollywood Snitch is reporting that Edward James Olmos (”Battlestar Galactica”) will be joining the cast of Michel Gondry’s “The Green Hornet” alongside Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz.
It is unknown what role Olmos will play in the film, an adaptation of the comic and radio show character who was created in 1936. Britt Reid, a newspaper publisher by day, becomes the crimefighter known as the Green Hornet by night, with his chauffeur Kato also fighting by his side as his partner.
The film is set for a July 9, 2010 release.

Jay Chou, a Taiwanese actor and musician, has been confirmed by Columbia to have taken on the role of Kato in the upcoming “The Green Hornet” alongside Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz and Nicolas Cage.
The role of Kato was famously played by Bruce Lee in the original television series, the character being the hero’s chauffeur during the day, and his masked martial arts-wielding partner during the night as Britt Reid becomes the Green Hornet.

Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Michel Gondry debuted the actual Black Beauty they’ll be using in their adaptation of “The Green Hornet” to kick off the San Diego Comic Con, built around a 1966 Chrysler Imperial.

Rogen and Goldberg wrote the film, which Gondry is directing and that Rogen is starring in as The Green Hornet, the newspaper publisher by day, masked trenchcoat-wearing vigilante by night.

Variety is reporting that Columbia Pictures is in talks with Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz for the two to join the cast of “The Green Hornet” as a gangster villain and a potential love interest, respectively. The film, which is being directed by Michel Gondry, stars Seth Rogen as the masked crime fighter clad in a green trench coat wielding a gas gun.
The picture is aiming for a fall start date even though a replacement is being sought for Stephen Chow, who was going to play the Hornet’s kung-fu sidekick and chauffer Kato.
Evan Goldberg wrote the script alongside Rogen, and Neal Moritz is producing through Original Films. [...]

First the news that Columbia Pictures will be moving the release date to July 9th, now MTV is reporting that actor Stephen Chow has entirely dropped out of the big-screen adaptation of “The Green Hornet”. Seth Rogen is attached to star in the production, which he co-wrote.
After initially both directing and acting, then dropping out of the director’s chair last year as Michael Gondry was attached to that position in the production, he has now officially left the project entirely, with casting calls going out to replace him in the role of Kato, the Asian martial artist sidekick and chauffeur of the masked and trench coated avenger The Green [...]

Columbia Pictures has moved the release date of Michel Gondry’s comic book adaptation of “The Green Hornet” back two weeks, from June 25th, 2010 to July 9th, 2010.
It was moved to make room for the studio’s all-star cast comedy “Grown Ups”, which was moved from March 12th, to June 25th 2010.
Seth Rogen is attached to star in the production, which he co-wrote. Stephen Chow is also set to star.
