ShockYa's Top 10 New Year's Eve Movies

Saturday, December 17th, 2011

With the release of “New Year’s Eve,” one might start wondering what other New Year’s movies there are in order to celebrate the figurative birth of Baby New Year. Here is a list of 10 such movies about the New Year, in which you will find stop-motion animation, 1. “Sunset Boulevard” (1950): One of the best movies of all time, “Sunset Boulevard”, starring William Holden and Gloria Swanson, is the story of an opportunistic script writer who becomes entangled in an aging silent star’s web. The film has a great New Year’s scene, which also serves as a pivotal moment in the absurd relationship between Holden and Swanson’s characters. CLICK…

Fall For Frank Sinatra All Over Again With His New Collection

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Thanksgiving is time to sit around with loved ones and enjoy a meal made with care. In a less sentimental way, it is about food and family. Why not throw some music into that holiday mix? How about playing tunes from Frank Sinatra? Capitol Records and Sinatra’s own Reprise Records have gathered a new collection, “Sinatra: Best of the Best”, which will be released in a single-disc and in a deluxe two CD packages on November 15th. The compilation will also include track notes written by Frank Sinatra Jr. “Best of the Best” tracklist is in chronological order, starting with the 1953 hit, “I’ve Got The World On A String”….

DVD Review: Boondock Saints, Kill The Irishman and Not As A Stranger

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

You must give writer-director Troy Duffy credit. Whatever one thinks of his talents or disposition (and I was personally on the receiving end of some angry, harassing phone calls after my review of his debut film), the dude knows perhaps better than any filmmaker of the past 15 years how to milk a living (marginal, one presumes, but still) from one fleetingly hot spec script, and movie. After being on the receiving end of some undeniably cruddy and cruel behavior from originating funder/distributor-to-be Miramax, ‘The Boondock Saints’ came out in 2000 via super-indie releaser Indican, and grossed under $50,000 domestically. After pimping movie merchandise and various home video releases for…

Scott Rudin to produce Martin Scorsese's Sinatra film

Monday, March 7th, 2011

This film seems quite overdue to Sinatra fans (including myself), but 1) a Frank Sinatra biopic is finally getting made and 2) it’s being filmed by Martin Scorsese. News has just been released today that Scott Rudin will produce the film, according to Deadline. Rudin joins Peter Guber and Schulman from Mandalay Entertainment who were brought into the project two years ago, the time when the rights were secured from Frank Sinatra Estates. Scorsese’s production company Sikelia Productions is also producing the film. Rudin was nominated twice at the Oscars this year for the films “True Grit” and “The Social Network”. Other films being produced are the U.S. version of…

Frank Sinatra Gets A Rock N' Roll Twist

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Normally, cover albums aren’t our favorite tunes to listen to. Nothing can beat the first. Unless the album puts a completely different spin on the old school tracks, rather than simply re-recording the original melody. And the album, SIN-Atra, gets our approval. I am sure you can guess that this 12 track album features songs by Frank Sinatra, but I bet a rock twist on the tracks was far from thought. Sinatra’s renowned songs, such as “New York, New York,” “Lady Is A Tramp” and “Fly Me To The Moon,” become almost unrecognizable once a rock n’ roll spin is put on them. And that is more than okay, since…

Martin Scorsese Helming Sinatra Biopic

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

Martin Scorsese will be directing a Frank Sinatra biopic, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Universal announced that they have a script from “Field Of Dreams” writer Phil Alden Robinson and have reached an agreement with Frank Sinatra Enterprises, a joint venture of the late Sinatra’s estate and Warner Music Group. Internal conflict within the Sinatra family estate over how the life story of legendary singer and actor Frank Sinatra, who died in 1998 was what has held up any project beforehand, as well as merchandising rights issues, though those all have been resolved according to the Sinatra estate. “Sinatra” will also allow Scorsese to tackle the life of Sinatra’s good lifelong…
