Eva Amurri dazzled in a strapless green Lela Rose dress and Casadei shoes as she hit the red carpet at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 15, 2012 at The Beverly Hills Hotel. The ‘New Girl’ actress, who attended the ceremony with her father Tim Robbins, matched the dress and shoes with an 18K gold diamond mesh bracelet by Sally Sohn and hair accessories by Jennifer Behr. Amurri is a fan of Lela Rose, having previously worn her dresses and attended her fashion shows. The actress even wore a dress created by the designer to her wedding on October 29, 2011 to former Major League Soccer player Kyle…

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well, for some of us. With the end of the year fast approaching, the awards nods are rolling in and this past week a big list was revealed – the Golden Globe nominations. Generally the right films snagged the honors – The Artist, The Descendants, The Help – but we did have a few upsets, namely the lack of Steven Spielberg’s name on the Best Director list for his work on War Horse. Brendan Meyer will certainly be having a very merry Christmas. The young actor was just cast as Stilson in Ender’s Game while Spike Lee turned to Clive Owen for…

Back-to-back announcements by two of the biggest awards organizations aren’t common, but this year we got lists two days in a row. There were some differences in the choices, but these ten films have suffered the most notable loss in the Oscar derby with a grand total of zero nominations from both groups. Here’s a quick look at the damage and each film’s chances at this point. The Tree of Life Terrence Malick’s epic drama annoyed some viewers with its lengthy and unfocused subject matter, and that may keep it out of the Best Picture and Best Director races. It’s still a good bet for Best Cinematography and other technical…

A Best Picture frontrunner just isn’t what it used to be. Since 2004, the Oscar winner for Best Picture has only won a corresponding top Golden Globe prize once. That film was runaway hit “Slumdog Millionaire”, and films that universally likeable don’t come around too often (could it be this year’s “The Artist”?). Golden Globe nominations will be announced on December 15th, and if history is any indication, it’s likely that two films will be pitted against one another in the top race. Here’s a look back at the films and the factors that led to these conflicting wins over the past seven years for the Best Motion Picture –…

Morgan Freeman has had a storied movie career, but only winning one Academy Award and one Golden Globe, according to The Hollywood Reporter. To me, that’s criminal, since he’s been a lot of work that warranted some sort of recognition. Thankfully, Freeman is going to be recognized for his career at the upcoming Golden Globes. According to The Hollywood Reporter and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s official release, the HFPA announced today that Freeman will be awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 69th annual Golden Globes. According to the release, Freeman got his start in acting at age 9 in a school play, and won…

The first sign of a new show’s awards potential comes on December 15th with the announcement of the Golden Globe nominations. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is famously much more liberal and creative with their choices than the stuffier Academy of Television Arts and Sciences that bestows the Emmy Awards at the end of the summer. This is the organization that has handed Twin Peaks and Nip/Tuck awards for Best Television Series – Drama, and nominated Sarah Michelle Gellar and Lauren Graham for acting awards. Golden Globe love doesn’t necessarily mean much, as it may just be head-scratching (like Prison Break or Piper Perabo from Covert Affairs) or overenthusiastic (like…

Don Cheadle first garnered a lot of mainstream attention with his performance opposite Denzel Washington in “Devil In a Blue Dress”, for which he was awarded the Los Angeles Film Critics Association’s Best Supporting Actor prize. Since then, of course, he’s appeared in a wide variety of mainstream and independent films, earning a Best Actor Academy Award nomination for the searing ”Hotel Rwanda”, and further burnishing his sociopolitical credentials as one of the producers of the Oscar-winning “Crash”, which he was instrumental in helping get made. Heck, he was even nominated for a Grammy Award in 2004, for his narration/dramatization of the Walter Mosley novel “Fear Itself”. In his new film, writer-director John…

Title: Barney’s Version Director: Richard J. Lewis Starring: Paul Giamatti, Rosamund Pike, Scott Speedman, Dustin Hoffman, Minnie Driver, Anna Hopkins, Bruce Greenwood, Mark Addy At 134 minutes, “Barney’s Version” is a tad long-winded. The flick is based off a novel written by the late Canadian Mordecai Richler. Filmed on-location in Montreal, New York and Rome; the autobiographical delivery via the lead’s mind, reflects back on the times he spent in each location. It’s not one of those, “Oh, when we were young” type pieces. Instead, the flick follows a character who constantly flip-flops in being the protagonist and the antagonist. And who better to handle a complex role than Paul…

According to Deadline, comedian Ricky Gervais claims in his British magazine “Heat” that the organizers of the show have asked him to come back and host the Golden Globes next year. After all of the hoopla over him hosting this year, who would have guessed he’d be invited back? (Me.) In his article, he writes that the biggest issue for him will be how to top himself. “I don’t think I should. I don’t know what I could do better. I certainly couldn’t get more press for them, that’s for sure,” he stated. He goes on to write that “[t]he question is always, ‘Did Ricky go too far?’…The answer is…

Title: Country Strong Director: Shana Feste Starring: Gwyneth Paltrow, Garrett Hedlund, Tim McGraw, Leighton Meester Not everyone is a country-music fan, and that includes yours truly. With that said, many people will be able to get behind Country Strong. Did it work in too many country tunes that could possibly annoy mainstream audiences? You bet-ya. However, the 112 minute flick also worked in plenty of powerful performances. Which ended up being the hook that caught – and kept – this guy’s attention. Beau Hutton (Garrett Hedlund) is a local performer at all the local bars in Nashville, Tennessee. The scruffy looking cowboy oozes with talent and is content to hang…
