Perri's Top 10 Movies Of 2010

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

It’s that time of year again; time to look back on the year passed and recognize the best of the best. It seems every year we complain the crop of movies isn’t up to par, but then the time to compile a list of the best of the year arrives and it’s increasingly difficult. This year gave me a particularly tough time thanks to my latest endeavor: film school. Over the summer, I decided to take my passion for film one step further and enroll in Columbia University’s Film MFA program. It didn’t take long for the education to collide with my work. As I learned more about the filmmaking…

Inception Snags The Top Spot At The Box Office For The Third Straight Week

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

At least one film met my expectations this week. I predicted both Inception and Salt would maintain their positions on the chart forcing Dinner for Schmucks to settle for #3, but it looks like just one of the two was able to hold on. Taking the top spot for the third week in a row is Inception with $27.5 million, bringing its grand total to $193.3 million. Dinner for Schmucks came in at #2 with a gross of $23.5 million, which just missed out on being Steve Carell’s highest debut of the year (not including Despicable Me), falling short of Date Night’s $25.2 million opening. Salt took a 45.9% hit,…

Evelyn Salt Is No Match For The Extractor At The Box Office, Inception #1 Again

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

It looks like Salt didn’t provide enough of a kick to get the majority of moviegoers out of Christopher Nolan’s limbo. Inception dropped just 30.7% taking in $43.5 million easily stealing the weekend from Angelina Jolie who only earned $36.5 million. Inception now has a domestic grand total of $143.7 million and shows no signs of slowing down. Plus, it’s proving to be just as much of a success overseas. Despicable Me is holding on strong adding another $24.1 million to its pot. That boosts its total to $161.7 million and further justifies Universal’s decision to get working on the sequel. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice took the #4 position, but only…

Christopher Nolan Sucks Moviegoers Into His Dreamworld And Inception Tops The Box Office

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

The weekend estimates are in and it looks like Christopher Nolan had no trouble conducting a little inception of his own, convincing the masses to check out his latest masterpiece. Inception pulled in $60.4 million easily securing the top spot, but that haul doesn’t even come close to Nolan’s last release, The Dark Knight, which earned an incredible $1558.4 million in its first weekend alone. However, Inception does bring Leonardo DiCaprio his biggest opening ever, blowing away Shutter Island’s $41.1 million first weekend total. Despicable Me took a 42% hit dropping Gru and his minions to second place with $32.7 million, which brings its total to $118.4 million. Third place…

Despicable Me

Forget The Moon, Despicable Me Nabbed $60.1 Million At The Box Office

Monday, July 12th, 2010

There’s no need to get a loan from the Bank of Evil; Gru and his minions hit it big at the box office this weekend. Despicable Me blew Universal Picture’s expectations away grossing far more than the $30 million the studio was hoping for. Despicable Me closed out the weekend with a whopping $60.1 million. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse came in second with $33.4 million, which brings its grand total to $237 million. The third spot went to newcomer Predators, which collected $25.3 million at 2,669 theaters. Predators only had a $40 million production budget, so tack on the $18 million it made at the international box office and it’s…

Both Eclipse And Airbender Hit It Big At The Box Office This Holiday Weekend

Monday, July 5th, 2010

The July 4th weekend has come to a close, but the celebrations will continue for both Summit Entertainment and Paramount. As expected, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse nabbed the top spot with $82.5 million. Stealing the film’s thunder quite a bit is that it earned a record-breaking $68.5 million on Wednesday alone, which means it took quite a hit from day one to day two, a 64.7% drop to be exact. Over the four-day weekend, the film made that $82.5 million, tack on the estimated $13.5 million it made today and that brings the grand total to $175.3 million. But that was expected. The surprise winner of the weekend is M….

Buzz And Woody Hold Strong Against Tom Cruise And Adam Sandler At The Box Office

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are a pretty high profile matchup as is the comedy ensemble of Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock and David Spade, but neither were able to take down a gang of animated toys. Toy Story 3 took in another $59 million, but it did take a 47% hit, which is the highest second week drop for a Pixar summer release. However, that’s really not that bad considering the film is coming off of a massive $110 million opening. So far, Toy Story 3 has a total gross of $226.6 million as compared to Pixar’s highest grossing film ever, Find Nemo, which only had…

Grown Ups Movie Review

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

Title: Grown Ups Director: Dennis Dugan Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph A film starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider has to be funny, right? Not only is that what the promotional material for Grown Ups wants moviegoers to think, but it also seems to have been what was on the minds of the members of this comedic powerhouse. Sit back, relax, do what you’re told and hilarity magically ensues. Maybe in a dream, but this is reality and Grown Ups faces a harsh one. Back in the 70′s coach Buzzer led Lenny,…
