Nominees for Academy Awards were announced this morning, among them “The Dark Knight” and “Milk” with eight each. Actors such as Mickey Rourke (”The Wrestler”) and Richard Jenkins (”The Visitor”) are up for Actor In A Leading Role, with other actors and actresses nominated for their films this past year including the late Heath Ledger, Josh Brolin, Anne Hathaway, and Kate Winslet. Films up for Best Picture include “Slumdog Millionaire”, “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button”, “The Reader”, “Milk”, and “Frost/Nixon”. Also to note, “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” starring Ron Perlman and Doug Jones (Carnies, Pan’s Labyrinth) was nominated for Achievement in Makeup.

Luke Goss, the English actor best known to US audiences as the original Reaper vampire Jared Nomek in “Blade 2″ and as the tragic villain Prince Nuada in “Hellboy II: The Golden Army”, recently sat down for a quick chat with MTV’s Splashpage to talk about his involvement with the big-screen adaptation of the Top Cow title “Magdalena”, anticipated to hit theaters in 2010.

World renowned book publisher HarperCollins has bought the rights to a thriller vampire trilogy from acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro and award-winning novelist Chuck Hogan.

The unnamed series’ first book, The Strain, details the invasion of a vampire-like virus in New York City that was brought in from a plane touching down at the infamous JFK airport.
Del Toro says of the series, “The idea is epic in scope. The trilogy advances in unexpected ways and each book contains unique and surprising revelations about the history, physiology and lore of the vampiric race, tracing its roots all the way back to its Old Testament origins.”
