Rise of the Planet of the Apes Movie Review

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Title: Rise of the Planet of the Apes Directed By: Rupert Wyatt Starring: Andy Serkis, James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo, Tyler Labine, Jamie Harris This summer, CGI’s been presented mainly as a gimmick – in good ways, like in Thor, in okay ways, like in Cowboys & Aliens and in nauseating ways, like in Transformers Dark of the Moon. While Rise of the Planet of the Apes is packed with digitally created apes, they are in no way comparable to the CGI planets, aliens and robots we’ve seen in the past few month; they’re as real as they can be without actually being…

Awesome Rise of the Planet of the Apes WETA Motion Capture Featurette

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

I’ve seen this film and it’s fantastic. As a huge fan of all (even somewhat of the Tim Burton version) “Planet of the Apes” movies, I really dug this new one. It holds true to the mythology and imagination created by these films, while at the same time, pay homage to its source. One of the reasons why this new movie is so effective is the amazing special effects by WETA, who also did the motion capture work of “The Lord of the Rings”, Peter Jackson’s “King Kong” and “Avatar”. All of this capped off by the spectacular and extremely heartfelt performance by Andy Serkis, who play Gollum and King…

Rise of the Apes Protest 405 Carmageddon

Rise of the Planet of the Apes Viral Video Shows 405 Carmageddon

Saturday, July 16th, 2011

Twentieth Century Fox’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” has released a new viral video in which the L.A. 405 highway is blocked off for some reason…that reason being an attack by apes starting at Mullholland Drive. The attack is presumably led by Caesar. You can watch the video below for yourself. In terms of viral videos, this one is pretty good at whetting the appetite for the film and can give the viewer a sense of how the real-world and the CGI apes will interact together. “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is a remake/reboot of the 1960s-1970s “Planet of the Apes” film series. This film is…

James Franco finally opens up on the Oscars

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

I know this is July and the Oscars happened way earlier this year, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, James Franco, the guy who took a serious beating for his weird performance as Oscars co-host has finally opened up to Playboy about the material he was given. In his words, he wasn’t sure any of it would work, even when they were in rehearsals. “It’s hard to talk about because it’s like assigning blame–not a fun thing to do,” he said. “For three or four weeks we shot promos and the little film that played in the opening. In the last week, when we really started focusing on the script…

The Best and Worst Movies of 2011 So Far (Rudie's Take)

Friday, July 8th, 2011

Some people will say 2011 isn’t a great year for movies. I would tend to disagree with that sentiment. It’s true the number of great films (so far) in 2011 are fewer than 2010 but the ones we do have in 2011 are pretty spectacular and worth watching and discussing. There are movies like Gore Verbinski’s “Rango” or Joe Wright’s “Hanna” are among the favorites of general audiences, just looking at the critical response and box office receipts, but there are also smaller movies that seem to have been forgotten like Cary Fukunaga’s adaptation of “Jane Eyre” and Tom McCarthy’s comic gem, “Win Win”. All of these titles are worthy…

New The Rise of The Planet of The Apes Theatrical Trailer Hits the Web

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

This looks amazing! Back in April, 20th Century FOX released the first trailer to the re-boot/prequel to the sci-fi classic franchise, “The Planet of The Apes”, “The Rise of The Planet of The Apes” (see how it’s different?), to excited fan boys across the Internet. Now the new trailer, oh my, does it get me excited for this movie. We get a better sense of the movie’s plot and story and overall tone, but more importantly, we get a better sense of the apes. They looks simply amazing! The scary thing about their looks is that they looks so real and lifelike. Good job to the people at Weta, who…
