Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Fox Cancels In The Flow With Affion Crockett

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

This is news to me–Deadline is reporting that Fox has cancelled sketch comedy series, “In The Flow With Affion Crockett” due to it’s low ratings during its summer run. A bigger question is when was this show advertised? I watch television in the summer (well, year-round), and I don’t ever remember seeing a commercial for this show. I know I would have seen it–”American Idol” was on this summer, which meant I’d be watching Fox regularly! How did I not know about this show? Anyway, according to Deadline, the show was produced by Jamie Foxx, and was picked up as a mid-season show. The show was only promoted a few…

But, of course, we’ve also…

‘Clueless’ actress Stacey Dash’s divorce from her third husband, Emmaneul Xuereb, has been made official, TMZ is reporting. The ‘Single Ladies’ star claimed in Los Angeles County Superior Court that Xuereb was violent towards her during their marriage. She was granted a protection order against him by a judge. When Dash filed for the restraining order, she claimed that Xuereb hit her in the face, head and body during the little over the two years they lived together during their marriage. She added…

Thunder Soul

Thunder Soul Movie Review

Monday, September 26th, 2011

Title: Thunder Soul Director: Mark Landsman The glut of studies — seemingly released almost weekly — showing the slippage and relatively poor international ranking of American high school students in core academic subjects like math, science and history is troubling, certainly, and indicative of a need to redouble efforts in those areas. But as anyone who still has a honest connection to their adolescence will admit, the role of extracurriculars and artistic electives is often integral to a teenager’s sense of engagement and self-worth, and certainly the type of well-roundedness that helps produce open-minded individuals who can work well with others. Not everyone has the aptitude to be a professional singer, musician, artist or…

Movie News Cheat Sheet: Tyler Perry Has Money, In Time Has A Lawsuit And Nic Cage Has Fangs

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

Can you feel the chill in the air? Winter’s coming! Okay, so many of you likely don’t live in the northeast and this is the Movie News Cheat Sheet, so there’s little room for TV references here, but fall is right around the corner! Even with Oscar season approaching, our Academy Awards potentials aren’t getting much love at the box office. After a weak start, Warrior took a tough fall and this weekend newcomer Drive lacked the zest to earn it the #1 spot, or even the #2 one for that matter. In other dark news, Nicolas Cage is apparently a vampire and Tim Burton’s take on Dark Shadows looks…

Rio

DVD Review: Rio, Marley and Me 2 and The Puppet Monster Massacre

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Directed by “Ice Age”‘s Carlos Saldanha, animated family film “Rio” centers on a rare, domesticated macaw, Blu (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg, who must have beaten out a crestfallen Simon LeBon), who lives an easy life in Minnesota. Believing he’s the last of his kind, Blu has never spread his wings and learned to fly — both figuratively and literally. When he learns of a female counterpart in Rio de Janeiro, Jewel (voiced by Anne Hathaway), however, Blu sets off a wild adventure and makes some new friends along the way. The supporting vocal performance (from George Lopez, Tracy Morgan and Jamie Foxx, among others) are energetic and peppy, but not always…

Kevin Costner in Django Unchained

Kevin Costner To Play Slave Driver Villain In Django Unchained

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

The cast of Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” is shaping up! Deadline is reporting that Kevin Costner has been tapped to play Ace Woody, a slave driver who fights slaves to the death. According to Deadline, Woody is “the sadistic trainer of male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of [club] Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes.” Costner, if his negotiations go through, will play alongside Leonardo DiCaprio (who will be Calvin Candie, the owner of the club and ranch in the film) as the villains of the film which Tarantino is calling a “Southern,” a film that has western sensibilities but is…

Horrible Bosses Movie Review

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Title: Horrible Bosses Directed By: Seth Gordon Starring: Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Jamie Foxx Sure, all comedies should be funny, but, let’s face it, what comedy is really that funny that it can keep you laughing for a full 90 minutes? This tends to be a bit of a pitfall with the genre; writers have joke tunnel vision and then, when that tunnel collapses, we’re left with a neglected story that leaves us checking our watches until the next funny gag arrives. In the case of Horrible Bosses, however, the story and consistent tone of the film, take the form of a…
