Jessica Chastain has been cast in director Oliver Hirschbiegel’s upcoming Princess Diana biopic ‘Caught in Flight,’ Collider is reporting. There’s no word yet who ‘The Debt’ actress will play, but the movie will focus on Diana’s real-life secret affair with a heart surgeon, Dr. Hasnat Kahn, who is believed to have been the love of her life. The two-year affair began in 1995, which Kahn remained silent about until he spoke to The Telegraph in 2008. Pre-production on ‘Caught in Flight’ is expected to begin in March 2012. Chastain is also set to appear with Ralph Fiennes in ‘Coriolanus,’ and with Tom Cruise in the sci-fi blockbuster ‘Horizons.’ Hirschbiegel spoke  [ Read More ]

Seeing Double: This Year's Dual Oscar Contenders

Posted by abe On November - 2 - 2011 0 Comment

As we enter November, the Oscars can’t be too far off. This famous awards ceremony honors movies released during the calendar year, meaning that some actors have multiple films eligible. Jude Law released a mammoth six films back in 2004, three of which earned Oscar attention, though not for his performances. Academy rules don’t permit an actor to receive two nominations in the same category, but earning one lead and one supporting mention is permissible. Often, a big year for an actor with one knockout movie role might lead to two nominations, even if the second is undeserved. For instance, was Jamie Foxx really Oscar-worthy in Collateral or was he  [ Read More ]

Take Shelter Movie Review

Posted by Perri Nemiroff On September - 30 - 2011 0 Comment

Title: Take Shelter Directed By: Jeff Nichols Starring: Michael Shannon, Jessica Chastain, Tova Stewart Well paced movies aren’t necessarily swift, but if the storytelling approach is more on the calculated and wallowing side, there better be a strong payoff. While writer-director Jeff Nichols presents Take Shelter as a piece that’ll rock a powerful crescendo, what we get is one that feels rather one-note most of the way through until it spikes just before the end. Nichols makes an honorable attempt at wrapping the piece up in a fulfilling and stirring way, but the jagged build doesn’t make it nearly as satisfying as it could be. Curtis (Michael Shannon) makes a  [ Read More ]

The Debt Movie Review

Posted by Joe Belcastro On August - 30 - 2011 0 Comment

Title: The Debt Director: John Madden Starring: Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington, Jessica Chastain, Marton Csokas, Tom Wilkinson, Jesper Christensen, Ciaran Hinds, Romi Aboulafia The Debt is one of those movies where one simply needs to read the synopsis when deciding whether or not to give this a look. It’s a balanced spy-thriller where there is just as much rhetoric as there is old-school action sequences – due to the fact that this 114 minute flick takes place in Germany in 1965. Knowing that, the script is penned by the fantastical Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class), who has found a way to blend substantial moments with over-the-top fun in his  [ Read More ]

The Tree of Life Movie Review

Posted by Joe Belcastro On June - 8 - 2011 2 Comments

Title: The Tree of Life Director: Terence Malick Starring: Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, Hunter McCracken, Sean Penn Just as religion isn’t for everyone these days, same can be said for ‘The Tree of Life.’ The 138 minute unstructured displays is the calling card of Terrence Malick. For those needing more elaboration on that last statement, this is an art house flick that presents scenarios with images and a narrative dialogue. There is a working script with characters, and if one is patient, they will understand the plot. What they may not comprehend is why this storytelling approach is considered entertaining? Or for that matter, genius? And I’m not saying the  [ Read More ]
